The moment Lena stepped into the decrepit building where Cassie was being held, the air around her seemed to crackle with fury. Her pale blue eyes, normally so composed and calculated, burned with an unholy fire. The scent of blood lingered in the air, sharp and metallic, mingling with the decay of the old, forgotten place. Her vampiric instincts were heightened by Cassie's suffering, and her every sense was attuned to one goal: destruction.
The sound of footsteps echoed in the distance, and Lena's lips curled into a snarl. Her fangs gleamed under the dim lights as she stalked forward, her movements quick and predatory. The hunter grunts stationed as guards were caught completely off guard as Lena tore through them with a ferocity they hadn't anticipated. She moved like a shadow, her claws slicing through flesh and bone with ease. Blood sprayed across the walls as her enemies fell before her, their screams cut short by her relentless assault.
And then, as she reached the center of the building, she saw her.
Victoria, Valeria's sister, stood waiting for her in the middle of a wide, dimly lit chamber. She bore a striking resemblance to her late sibling-tall, with sharp features and cold, calculating eyes that now burned with vengeful determination. But unlike Valeria, there was a cruel smile on Victoria's lips as she stood over Cassie, who lay bound and beaten at her feet.
"So predictable, Lena," Victoria taunted, her voice laced with venom. "I knew you wouldn't be able to resist. Just like my sister said-you're too emotional, too reckless."
Lena's gaze flicked to Cassie, her heart twisting at the sight of her bruised and battered body. The chains that bound Cassie rattled as she tried to look up, her eyes locking with Lena's for just a moment-a moment that broke something deep inside Lena.
Without a word, Lena charged at Victoria with a scream of pure rage, her speed almost blinding. She moved like a beast unleashed, her claws aimed at Victoria's throat. But Victoria was prepared. She dodged to the side with inhuman speed, drawing a silver-bladed sword from her back, the blade shimmering with runes designed to harm vampires.
Their clash was brutal and ferocious, each strike filled with a raw intensity that echoed through the room. Lena attacked with savage fury, her movements erratic but deadly. She fought like a wild animal, her eyes glowing fiercely as she slashed at Victoria's defenses, each blow fueled by her rage and desperation.
Victoria countered with cold precision, using her training and experience to keep Lena at bay. She blocked Lena's strikes with her sword, the silver cutting into Lena's flesh whenever she got too close. But despite the pain, Lena didn't stop. Every wound only fueled her further, pushing her deeper into a state of berserk frenzy.
The room became a blood-soaked battlefield. The sound of metal clashing against claws filled the air, along with the wet, sickening sound of flesh being torn apart. Lena's movements became more brutal, less controlled-she ripped through Victoria's armor, tearing at her skin with claws and fangs alike. Blood spilled onto the floor, mixing with the dirt and grime of the chamber.
Victoria let out a sharp cry as Lena finally managed to slash across her midsection, tearing through muscle and sinew with terrifying ease. She stumbled back, clutching her wound as blood poured from the deep gash.
"You'll die for what you did to Cassie," Lena hissed, her voice low and dangerous. "Just like your sister."
Victoria's eyes blazed with hatred, and she lunged at Lena with a desperate scream. But Lena was ready this time. With a swift, brutal movement, she grabbed Victoria by the throat, lifting her off the ground with ease.
Victoria struggled, her hands clawing at Lena's grip as she gasped for air. "You bitch... you think killing me will change anything?" she choked out, her voice filled with spite. "The Dravonix Initiative will never stop coming for you... or her."
Lena's eyes darkened, and she tightened her grip, her claws digging into Victoria's skin as blood trickled down her throat. "Let them come," Lena growled. "I'll kill every last one of them."
With a final, savage twist, Lena snapped Victoria's neck with a sickening crack. The hunter's body went limp in her grasp, her eyes wide and lifeless. Lena tossed her aside like a broken doll, her chest heaving with fury and bloodlust.
But the battle wasn't over yet. The remaining hunters, who had been watching the duel in horror, rushed forward, their weapons raised. Lena turned to face them, her eyes blazing with rage.
The next few minutes were a whirlwind of violence and carnage. Lena tore through the hunters with reckless abandon, her claws and fangs ripping through armor and flesh alike. Blood splattered the walls and the floor as she slaughtered them without mercy, her movements a blur of savagery.
By the time the last hunter fell, the chamber was drenched in blood, and Lena stood in the center of the carnage. Her body covered in chronic wounds, not yet healing as a consequence of the blessed runic blades and bullets that plunged deep into her, but still standing tall. Her chest rose and fell heavily, her eyes still glowing with the aftermath of her rage.
She stumbled toward Cassie, collapsing to her knees beside her. With trembling hands, she broke the chains that held Cassie, pulling her into her arms as gently as she could.
"Cassie," Lena whispered, her voice breaking. "I'm here. It's over."
Cassie, weak and barely conscious, reached up to touch Lena's face, her fingers brushing against the vampire's bloodstained skin. "Lena... you came for me," she murmured, her voice hoarse.
"Always," Lena replied, holding her close. "I'll always come for you."
As they sat there, surrounded by death and blood, Lena knew that this battle had only escalated the war between them and the Dravonix Initiative. But for now, they had each other. And in that moment, that was all that mattered.
