In the weeks following the defeat of the Dravonix Initiative, Lena felt something she hadn't felt in a long time-unease. The battle had been hard-fought, and though she had emerged victorious, there was a lingering sense that something was wrong. The quiet that followed wasn't the peaceful reprieve she had hoped for. Instead, it was the calm before a storm.
She had tried to return to her life with Cassie, seeking to enjoy the carefree existence she had relished for so many centuries. But there was a shadow creeping in the corners of her mind, a whisper that warned her of a threat she hadn't yet identified. Cassie noticed the change in her too. Lena was more guarded, more cautious, even as she tried to maintain her usual charm and wit.
One evening, as they sat together in a secluded rooftop garden overlooking the glowing city, Cassie finally asked the question that had been on her mind for days.
"Lena, what's wrong?" Cassie asked, her eyes searching Lena's pale blue gaze. "You've been on edge ever since the battle. You don't usually worry about anything. What's bothering you?"
Lena looked out at the city, her lips pressed into a thin line. "Something's coming, Cassie," she said quietly. "Something bigger than the Dravonix Initiative. I can feel it."
Cassie frowned, leaning closer to her. "But we defeated them. The Initiative is gone."
Lena shook her head, her expression grim. "The Initiative was never the greatest threat. They were relentless, but predictable. What's coming... it's different."
Cassie's eyes widened slightly. "What do you mean?"
Lena sighed, leaning back against the wall behind them. "There's an organization that's far older and more dangerous than the Dravonix Initiative. They're called the Sanctum of Light. They don't hunt vampires like the Initiative did. They only go after the ones who pose the greatest threat. Vampires who have survived for centuries, who have power that others could only dream of."
"And now they're coming after you," Cassie whispered, understanding dawning on her.
Lena nodded slowly. "Yes. By taking down the Initiative, I've revealed myself. They know who I am now. And they're going to come for me."
