Mikey had an interview with Esquire, which Jenna knew of. But she totally forgot the day, so she wasn't expecting it. So far, Jenna was cuddling with Mikey's new puppy, Jam, and her cat, Biscuit. Since moving in with Mikey and her own puppy, Kylo, the two pets had become inseparable siblings, and now Jam was the new baby of the family.Jenna was sprawled on the couch, relaxed and content, with Biscuit curled up beside her. The soft purring of the cat was comforting, and Jenna absentmindedly stroked her fur, glancing at the playpen where Jam was dozing.
Suddenly, she noticed Mikey carrying her laptop across the room, her focus shifting from the pets to her friend. Mikey's warm smile filled the screen as she angled it down to show off Jam, who was blissfully snoozing.
"Can you see him? Isn't he the cutest?" Mikey beamed, her voice bubbling with excitement.
In her enthusiasm, Mikey accidentally lifted the camera, revealing Jenna snuggled on the couch. Panic surged through Jenna. No one knew about their relationship; everyone assumed they were just friends, even after moving in together.
"Wait, was that Jenna Ortega?" the interviewer asked, a hint of surprise in their voice.
"Um..." Mikey stammered, her mouth closing abruptly. She nodded her head slightly, caught between the thrill of the moment and the weight of unspoken truths.
Jenna felt her cheeks flush. She quickly sat up, smoothing her hair and trying to appear casual. "Hey, surprise!" she said, forcing a smile.
Mikey shot her a look, half-amused, half-nervous. "Yeah, so... this is Jenna. My roommate!"
"Just your roommate?" the interviewer teased, clearly intrigued.
Mikey hesitated, glancing at Jenna for a cue. Jenna shrugged, a playful grin spreading across her face. She could feel the tension in the air shift, morphing into something lighter. "Well, we're definitely more than that," she said, her heart racing.
The interviewer's eyes lit up with curiosity. "More than just roommates? Do tell!"
Mikey laughed, the initial tension dissolving. "We're best friends, and we just happen to share a home—and pets. It's a whole situation."
Jenna chimed in, "And lots of banana muffins! Mikey's a pro baker."
"Okay, that's definitely true," Mikey admitted, her smile broadening. "I bake when I'm stressed, which is often, you know, with this whole acting thing."
The interviewer nodded, clearly enjoying the banter. "So, how do you balance your public persona with your private life?"
Jenna watched as Mikey spoke, her confidence growing. "It's tricky," Mikey said, her expression thoughtful. "I love my work and the characters I play, but I also cherish my personal life. It's important to have that balance."
"I think it's great that you can share this space together," the interviewer added. "It must be a fantastic support system."
Jenna felt a swell of pride. She reached over and scratched Biscuit's chin, finding comfort in the cat's purrs. "It really is. We keep each other grounded."
As the conversation flowed, Jenna realized this moment might change everything. Mikey was opening up, and their bond was no longer just a secret. It felt liberating, a step into the light.
The interview continued, filled with laughter and candid moments. Jenna watched as Mikey effortlessly navigated the questions, her warmth shining through.
When it ended, Mikey turned to Jenna, her eyes sparkling. "I can't believe that just happened! You were so chill about it."
Jenna laughed, her heart still racing. "It felt like the right moment to be honest. And hey, now the world knows we're a team!"
Mikey smiled, relief washing over her. "Yeah, and it feels amazing. Thanks for helping me explain that, Jenna."
"Always," Jenna replied, pulling her into a quick hug. "Now, how about those banana muffins?"
"Only if you help me bake!" Mikey grinned, her earlier nerves forgotten as they both reveled in the joy of their new chapter together.
