There is a clear divide that separates life for Izuku. This divide is what he refers to in his mind as "The Before" and "The After". The Before are the years he considered the happiest years in his life. Well......the happiest of what he could remember anyway. Those were the years in which he still went to the park to meet Kaachan, his former best friend; or when his mother and father would make huge pillow forts in the living room and they'd all watch All Might movies. These were times that were spent with his precious people. All his happiness ended when he was diagnosed as quirkless, of course. That should give you a clue as to why they were called " Before and After", because obviously after diagnosis all his happiness went away. Kaachan and he were no longer friends, in fact Kaachan became his number one bully. Although if he disliked Izuku that much it'd make more sense to just ignore him, but hey the mind works in mysterious ways. Also on top of that his parents had slowly pulled away from him. It started small with his father leaving overseas to work for a computer company, then his mother beginning to pick up extra shifts. Eventually he was left home alone more and more as time passed. Whenever he'd call his mother she never answered the phone and Izuku had never gotten his father's number after he left, so he had basically no contact with anyone. One bright side is that although his parents don't talk to him, they leave plenty of money for him. He had clothes and shoes of course so there honestly wasn't much to spend it on besides the occasional journal and pen set here and there. He also had a prepaid card that he walked to the corner store to load, but he kept at least 70,000 yen in an old All Might metal lunchbox to be safe. Izuku is now 13 and just about finished with middle school, so he'd gotten about 8 years worth of birthday money plus any other change his parent's left for him saved up. Being left to raise himself had taught him to manage money wisely and how to save and budget. This was a good thing seeing as he had about 2 months left of Aldera Middle School and he planned on applying for U.A. High. For years and years he was determined to be a hero, but being quirkless put him a few steps back. To be honest, it put him more than a few steps back. He'd need to learn to fight and defend himself, learn to make support gear, or find someone to make some for him. Also who could he find to apprentice under that would take on and teach a quirkless kid to be a hero? Honestly, it would take a lot of depending on others and that wasn't something Izuku felt he could do. Life has been hard and very tiring without a quirk, and that's while only having to deal with the kids his age or older. When it came to adults and their views on quirkless people, that just wasn't anything Izuku wanted any part of. In fact that was very much something he'd love to stay very far way from. Kids are usually cruel and they'll taunt, tease, and push him around. On the other hand, adults are full of hatred and anger. They are the ones who'd see him hurt or in real danger. No, Izuku decided he'd be safe and go for the General Course, and maybe later on in the year he could switch over to the Hero Course. He'd also been thinking about signing up for the Support Course so he could design and make hero costumes, but he wasn't too sure about that right now. Luckily he had a bit of time before he had to make up his mind permanently.
The bell rang signaling the end of school and kids began to file out of class grabbing their bags and friends. Izuku looked around to see if the coast was clear then he grabbed his bag and headed out the classroom. He was trying to avoid Kaachan and his group of bullies. Today was Friday and if he could make it home without any attacks or bruises, then he might have the chance at a good weekend. Walking down the hall he didn't spot anyone so he kept a fast pace and his head held low just incase they were looking out for him. Who was he kidding? Of course they'd be looking for him. These days it seemed like they had nothing better to do since the teachers had been slacking up on the assigned work. He had been beaten up three times this week already so he was really hoping for a bit of luck today. I mean honestly, his ratio of bad days to good days was 3 to 1 and that there was really giving you an outlook on his luck so far. Coming up on the gate he saw them when he was about two feet away. They hadn't noticed him yet so he took off running out the gate and down the street to his apartment. He doubled back and took a few alleyway shortcuts in case they decided to chase him, but about 5mins later he turned on his street without anyone tailing him. He ran up to the front door unlocking it and slipping in. Taking his shoes off he noticed they were the only ones by the rack so he was, per usual, alone at home.
