When happiness ends there's always... the smell of blood in the air..
I was hiking back up the mountain in the morning when I smelt it, blood. It was coming straight from the direction of my house!
I rushed to the top and threw the basket off of my back in a fit of shock, there, half buried in blood-stained snow, lay Nezuko and Rokuta bundled together...My breathing heavy, I ran to their limp bodies, "WHAT THE...? AGH! WHAT HAPPENED?! WHAT HAP-" I stopped in my tracks.. inside the wooden shelter was the still bodies of the remaining family members. It was horrible to look at and the disgusting stench of blood filled my nostrils to the point of gagging, but that could wait, first I needed to check if they had any pulse. "Mother... Hanako... Takeo... Shigeru... Y/N... Nezuko... Rokuta..." It was too horrible to believe, bit I pushed the the horror and discomfort of seeing the bloodied newly killed corpses of my only family, and went up to each one of them properly, pressing two fingers gently on each of their necks to find any form of life. A beat.. it was there! Y/N had an actual pulse! Now the only one left to check was Nezuko.. and to my relief; so did she! Gently prying the two's strong grips off of our younger brothers, I picked them up and placed them onto my back, starting to walk down the mountain once more, except this time, in search for help..
'Only Y/N and Nezuko's bodies were still warm. Maybe a doctor can save them?' My breathing had slightly calmed but my head was still pounding from the shock, mind still spiraling in an effortless try to process everything, the joints in my legs becoming stiff from the harsh cold of the winter and the horrible strain of running so fast in a steep area.
'How did this happen? A bear? Maybe a bear too hungry to hibernate?' My eyes started to get a little fuzzy at the knowledge my family was actually dead. 'So hard to breath!' I thought 'The air's so cold it's freezing my lungs!' I bent down slightly and put my hands on my knees, carefully positioning my younger siblings better so they wouldn't fall off, and tried to catch my breath. Staring up again, I found it hard to move my feet against the push of the snow and my body's depleting energy. 'Keep going! Move your feet faster.' I knew that now wasn't the time to give up when the last of my loved one's lives relied on him making it to the town fast.Quickly glancing at the bottom of the mountain, his heart dropped slightly, 'It's still a long way to town.' that wouldn't get in the way though! 'I won't let you die! I have to save you both! Your brother will save you!' and with that thought giving me courage; I started to walk a bit faster until shuffling could be heard from behind me, then a startling "GRRAAAAAAH!". Before I knew it, my foot slipped off of the edge and we all fell, but it felt more like I was being pulled down, what with the hands tightly gripping at my hands.
'Oh no! I'm slip-' my thoughts were once again cut off when I landed, the weight on my back now gone. The snow thankfully cushioning the impact and saving us from getting severely hurt - maybe some bruises here and there - but those were easy to take care of if you know how to. 'The snow saved me. But it also made me slip!'
Sitting up and taking in my surroundings, I saw a figure stood in between a few trees in the near distance, it was Nezuko! "Nezuko!" She moved her head slightly and I took the chance to try and spot Y/N.. she was just to my left, a hand placed on her head and a far away look in her eyes.
Deeming that she was in the best shape of the two and the only one of them sat down and resting, kind of, I ran towards Nezuko worriedly "Nezuko! Are you alright? You shouldn't be up! Let me carry you and Y/N into town" I placed my hands on her shoulders gently, looking t her wounds, "Nezuko..." But my worry was soon replaced with shock when her head snapped up at an almost painful speed and she lunged at me! Her eyes that were once a beautiful purple color were now a light pink with slits for pupils! Veins were physically visible on her face, seeming like they had popped out, and when scanning her face, I looked at her bared teeth, the canines now looked inhumanely sharp and pointy. Too much for any human to possibly have naturally. I grabbed my hatchet from next to me and held it up sideways, the wooden handle made it so she couldn't bite me.
When she had lunged at me, my body was pushed back and I had landed on my back with her towering over me, eyes screaming with blood lust. At first I had wondered what the hell was going on, until I realized the hard truth.. 'A DEMON!' it was starting to make sense now, but still.. I thought of what old man Saburo said. Was Nezuko... a man-eating demon? I shook that thought away, 'No that was impossible. Nezuko has been human since the day she was born.' I was starting to have to force myself to believe that, it didn't last though 'But this Nezuko smells of blood and death. So does Y/N, now that I think about it.. But they couldn't have done all that. I found her fallen over Rokuta, like she was protecting him, I had also found Y/N like that, just with Takeo instead..' I looked down slowly, she didn't have any blood on her mouth or hands. And there's yet anther smell, different from them. 'Whatever the reason, she's growing bigger.. and she's getting stronger!'
No noise was made from Y/N yet, it seemed as if she was just watching it all play out, and I felt guilt play on my conscience, it was partially my fault after all: 'While I was safely asleep in town, something horrible happened to my whole family. How they must have suffered. And I wasn't there to help them.'
'I have to save Nezuko and Y/N if I can!.. But she's so strong! I can't push her away!' So, I tried shouting her, trying to spark some recognition in her eyes, "NEZUKO! Hold on Nezuko! Fight it! Fight for your life! Be strong! Don't turn into a demon! You can do it!" The anger in her eyes was beginning to fade, so I knew it was working. "Nezuko!" and like that, I got through to her, she was crying, and her grip was becoming gentler by the second. I took this chance to check up on Y/N, who had indeed been watching, her expression was conflicted, as if she didn't know whether to help one of us or just stay there. Upon taking closer look, she had fangs, sure, but her eyes were the exact same color as before and there were no cat-like slits instead of pupils, she seemed normal! But her scent was something similar to a demon's, from Nezuko's at least. I had no clue what other demon's smelt like, except from the 12 year old (Nezuko) and the faint one from back home.
