I examined the room we were in before we left, I saw a huge map on the wall with marks of where their bases are located. As soon as I memorized it I told them we had to go. "Come on, we have to get out of here!" I yelled over the bombs and gunshots. Steve grabbed Bucky trying to balance him while I was leading the way. "What happened to the both of you?" Bucky asked trying to catch his breath. "We joined the army." Steve said.
When we got into the hallway Steve could finally let go of Bucky. "Did it hurt?" Bucky asked Steve. I don't think he knows I got the serum yet. "A little." I heard Steve say. "A little? Steve we both know it hurt more than, A little!" I exclaimed as Bucky looked at me confused. "Oh. Yea I got the serum too." I shrugged. Bucky just nodded. "Then why didn't you get taller?" He asked. "I only got six vials of the serum, Steve got 12" I stated as I continued running. I heard explosions, I started running faster. The boys where still behind me. Another explosion just moments after the first two. Then another. We reached a flight of stairs so we started climbing to the top. Once we reached the top I stopped to look over the railing. The base, the base was exploding. Another explosion occurred and knocked us back. We quickly started climbing another flight of stairs. "Captain America! Lady America! How exciting! I am a great fan of your films." We turned our heads and stopped in our tracks. "So Dr. Erskine managed it after all. Not exactly an improvement, but, still. Impressive." He said as he made his way onto the walkway. Steve started to walk towards him, I stayed with Bucky in case we needed to get out of here. Steve was a couple feet away when he decided to punch Schmidt. He knocked Schmidt back but when I looked where Steve punched him there was a red, skin looking patch under his eye. "You've got no idea" Steve said while Schmidt lifted his hand to his eye. "Haven't I?" Schmidt said, throwing a punch at Steve. I closed my eyes. Bang. I looked up and Steve had blocked the punch with his shield. I started to make my way onto the walkway but Bucky pulled me back. I looked at him and he nodded his head while he held onto my arm. Schmidt threw another punch, successfully hitting Steve this time. He began to walk closer to Steve, my heart was pounding. This is the only time I will admit, I am scared. When he got close enough Steve kicked him in his stomach, causing him to fly backwards. I watched the stubby fat gut reach for a lever and the walkway started separating. "No matter what lies Erskine told you. You see, I was his greatest success!" He reached for his neck and started pulling off what seemed to be a mask. When he fully pulled off the mask it revealed he had red skin. "You don't have one of those? Do you?" Bucky asked. I laughed a little at the man's appearance, I mean he has no nose who wouldn't laugh? "No" me and Steve answered in sync. "You are deluded, captain and Lady America. You pretend to be a simple soldier, but in reality, you are just afraid to admit that we have left humanity behind!" He said as he threw his mask into the fire. His words made me think, what if I where like him? "Unlike you. I embrace it, proudly! Without fear!" He said walking into an elevator. "Then how come you're running?" Steve exclaimed. The door started closing. "You coward!" I yelled. We where again knocked back with another explosion. "Look! We have to get up there!" I said pointing to a door. "Come on, lets go. Up" Steve said looking at the door also. I took off towards the stairs while Steve and Bucky were behind me. There was another explosion when we reached the top. "James you go first!" I yelled over the noise. "Let's go buddy. One at a time." Steve said as he helped Bucky over the rail. We had to walk along a beam that was over a bunch of fire. You fall, you're dead. As Bucky began walking my heart started racing. "Don't fall, please don't fall." I whispered to myself. The beam started shaking, come on James hurry. He reached the end and it was my turn. I climbed over the rail and decided not to look down. I froze. "I can't! I can't make it!" I yelled almost crying. "Yes you can! Look at me y/n!" Bucky demanded. I locked eyes with him and he held out his hand. I started walking and kept my eyes on him. When I got close to the end the beam started shaking. "Shit!" I said scared. The beam was now falling. I closed my eyes and jumped, expecting to be met with excruciating pain. Instead I am met with a hand on mine. I opened my eyes and Bucky was pulling me up over the rail. "You are okay now y/n." James said cupping my face in his hands. We looked back at Steve. "Go! Get out of here!" He told us pointing to the door. "No!" I exclaimed. "No! Not without you!" Bucky yelled after me. Then Steve got that look on his face, the look he has when I thought of an idea. We watched as he pulled the railing down and walked away from it. "Steve! What are you doing?" I yelled. He ignored me. He started running to the end of the walkway and jumped. I moved before I could get crushed but when I looked down Steve had landed on top of James. I started laughing. "Steve! Don't ever do that again!" I yelled as I pulled him up hugging him. "Ok. Ok" he told me. Then I pulled James up. "You Okay James." I ask. "Yea." He said smiling.
Once we got out we went we're Steve told them to meet us. When we got there, there were over 200 soldier waiting. They had somehow managed to get tanks too? "Come on! We know the way back!" Steve exclaimed.
We were almost at the base and it was morning now. I felt someone behind me, when I looked it was James. "You know, we thought you were dead." I told him, he smiled and scratched the back of his neck. "Well, I kinda did too, so." He laughed. I didn't know wether I should laugh or not. So I just smiled. "I missed you James." I said and hugged him. He waited a second before hugging me back. We stayed there for a couple seconds then let go.
We finally reached base. Steve told me to lead all of the men back, so I was now in the front with Steve, Bucky, and the rest of the men behind me. As we got to the camp we heard men shouting. "Look who it is!" One man yelled as he began running. I walked into the base smiling as I was met with familiar faces. All of the men looked surprised I was leading. Then I saw colonel. Shit. We are in so much trouble. We stopped when all of the men where inside the camp. I stood tall and saluted the colonel. "Sir. Some of these men need medical attention right away." I said as Steve stood beside me. "I'd like to surrender myself for disciplinary action." Steve told Phillips. "I would too. Sir." I looked him in the eyes. He looked at me then back at Steve. "That won't be necessary." He said looking at all of the men. "Yes sir." Me and Steve said. I turned and hugged Steve. "Love you dork." I said laughing. Steve laughed and let go. He then nudged me but I guess he forgot his strength because I stumbled back and someone caught me. I looked up and saw James' smiling face. I got up and looked at him. "Missed you Sarge." I said as I hugged him once again. He looked at me when I let go and smirked. "Give it up for Lady America and Captain America!" Then all of the men erupted into cheers. I smiled, I was slightly embarrassed. He must have known because he laughed and hugged me again. "James. I'm betting $10 dollars Steve likes Peggy." I said pointing to them. He laughed. "Did I miss something?"
