The Storm

There’s not much to this one. It was just a cute idea I had in my head and wanted to write. I hope you enjoy! 🙂

The Storm

When Angel first heard that Dashi and Shellington would be heading down to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Deep Sea Octo-Lab, she was a little nervous. She was still awfully attached to Shellington and this would be the longest she’d been away from him since she first came to the Octopod.

She wasn’t too worried, though. She was not just comfortable, but happy on the Octopod. She knew and loved every Octonaut and Vegimal. Besides, she wasn’t scared of Captain Barnacles anymore.

Furthermore, the human girl kept reminding herself of what Shellington had told her right after Tunip cried over leaving the Vegebot.

“Don’t worry, Tunip. We’ll take good care of the Vegebot”, the sea otter had assured the little Vegimal.

“And the Vegebot will take good care of you guys, right?” Angel had added.

Shellington had smiled. “That’s right. Just like you and Tunip will take care of each other, won’t you?”

Both Angel and Tunip had agreed to this.

However, when it was time for everyone to leave in the GUPs and go back to the Octopod, Angel had turned around; swum back to Shellington and given him one last hug.

The otter had returned the gesture before urging her gently, “Go on, Angel. You’ll be okay.”

Truthfully, it hadn’t been so bad. Of course, Angel missed Shellington (and Dashi too, but to a lesser extent), but with the others looking after her; the Vegimals sticking to her like glue and so many exciting things happening on the Octopod, she couldn’t feel depressed or sit around, moping, until Shellington came back in a few weeks.

That is, it wasn’t so bad until the storm.

Everyone else had known about it. However, Angel had already gone to bed and nobody had told her.

BAM!

The loud noise jolted Angel awake. She gazed out her bedroom window to see that the waters had gotten much darker. Well, it was nighttime, but silver flashes lit up the water from the surface. The ocean was getting rougher.

BAM!

There was that noise again. Angel whimpered and hid under the quilt. She hated storms, for obvious reasons. Everyone on board the Octopod knew Angel couldn’t be alone in a storm. She was only alone now because they all assumed she was asleep- and, until a moment ago, she was. Sometimes, the Vegimals would sleep with her, but not that night.

The little girl kicked off her quilt, grabbed her blanket and was about to run to the lab. It wasn’t until she was about to open the door that she remembered Shellington wouldn’t be there. He was at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest, darkest place on Earth.

Angel thought that the research he and Dashi were doing down there sounded pretty cool. She could only imagine how amazing it would be to find an animal nobody had ever seen before. Even so, she was glad that she wasn’t the one staying down there. It was scary down there, especially when the Octo-Lab’s power went out. (That had been Angel’s second visit to the midnight zone; she did not want to remember her first.)

Now, she wished she were down there, away from the storm.

The storm grew louder and Angel became more afraid. Shellington may not be here, but there were plenty of others on the ship right now. She made up her mind to join them in HQ. She was supposed to be in bed, but how could they mind when she was scared?
