Lonely musings Tū - (Ft. Mahi and Yuvraj, Sonu [Gauti?].)

A/N - Just small little stories. Didn't want them to be lonely; so shared. The second one.

"The act of speaking out makes you alone." — Ravish Kumar

The cake was rather scrumptious and MS used a finger to run around the edge of his lips thereafter licking the digit. It was an unusual combination of Vanilla and banana with a hint of wildflowers. The wildflowers made it rather unusual and untamed.

If untamed had a flavour, then this would be it.

"Still the quintessential cake lover, huh?"

MS turned and smiled at Suresh Raina. "But of course. There is nothing quite like it, is there?"

"Oh there are many; only not for the great Mahendra Singh Dhoni."

"There are not quite many good for the 'great' Mahendra Singh Dhoni, huh?"

MS turned, only to come face to face with Yuvraj Singh.

"Hey Yuv... Yuvraj." The familiar appellative would not come easy to him now. "How are you doing?" He held out his hand only to drop it awkwardly after a long moment of keeping it suspended in midair.

"So...?"

"So." MS shrugged and looked around. Sonu was staring at the pair of them with considerable perturbation clouding his face.

"No fancy seeing you here comment?"

"Why should I? In fact it is not too much of a surprise."

"It should be; look around and you would find only the very best in their fields being invited."

MS raised one eyebrow. "And you are not one?"

"Was never even the captain."

A flutter of unrest ran through MS and he slapped down Sonu's partly raised arm; the last thing he wanted was a show of support or choosing of sides. "You were...are a brilliant player. Your inclusion should never be one of surprise." He paused.  "I should mingle for a while." With the mumbled, half-baked excuse MS tried to move away but found his hand held unto.

"Running again. Mahi?"

"Badmouthing me again, Yuvraj?"

The retort left a bad taste in his mouth and Mahi felt a frizzle of self-loathing rush through him.

"Sorry." He apologised immediately.

"Still unable to be rude to me? Or is this the ever politically correct MS Dhoni? We are colleagues who have played for India for a very long time," Yuvraj intoned and cruelly smiled. "Cheeku would be ecstatic!"

Mahi felt the immediate grip of helplessness squeezing his chest area and jerked his head. "He knows me better. Virat would never misunderstand."

"Unlike me, you mean? But of course. You always have had these youngsters under your spell; even Rohit. He would never hear a word against you. Not one! But then they don't know you like I do, huh? The boy who just came and took over! The boy who had no experience and was yet preferred over all the rest. The boy the Board thought they would be able to mould easily."

"But they couldn't!" Sonu's interruption was immediate. "Stop it, Yuvi. You... You know that Mahi always stood up for the Team. Sometimes even to his own detriment. Why are you being so...so malicious?"

"But of course! Suresh Raina to the rescue to his Mahi Bhai! In your eyes he can do no wrong, can he? Ridiculous!"

"You used to be the same, Yuvi." Sonu tired to placed his arm over Yuvraj's shoulder but the later jerked away.
