A/N - Just small little stories. Didn't want them to be lonely; so shared. The Third one. And this one is very out there. Grain of salt, okay?

"There is something immaculate about loneliness which only lonely people can understand." — Munia Khan

IPL 2024

"Rohit?"

"Hi Mahi Bhai."

"What are you doing here?"

Rohit took an awkward look around the Chennai Super Kings dressing room; barring a few stranglers, they were alone. "If the timing is not good, I can come back. Or we can talk later. It is nothing that important."

Mahi Bhai turned his head the slightest bit and smiled. "It has been 16 years since the IPL started and this is the first time I have the fortune of hosting Rohit Sharma in my Dressing room. You are more than welcome, Rohit."

"Oh." Rohit felt the doubts and the impeding questions coagulating into a mass that lodged right at the base of his throat. "I...I just wanted to meet you.. S-Speak to y-you."

"Ok?"

Mahi Bhai's steady gaze was just serving to further disconcert Rohit and the captain of the Indian Cricket Team moved to look out at the open stadium. Night had fallen and only a few people remained in the stands. The groundsmen were clearing up the field and he could see Jassi speaking to a visibly upset Hardik.

"Bhai?"

"Yes, Rohit?"

"Right before the match today, Virat called me."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. Just to pull my leg some and, in a rather convoluted way, to wish me luck."

Mahi Bhai chuckled. "Yeah. He does that. Will make you question whether he even means to wish you luck or totally otherwise."

"Yeah." Fondness coloured more than just Rohit's words, at the memory of the call; even though the doubts had also been dragged in, courtesy of his best friend. "He managed to make me the slightest bit irritated but yeah, I rather look forward to his calls too."

"I know." Mahi bhai paused; he was still staring at Rohit, the eyes probably taking in every minute shift of his facial muscles and drawing their own conclusions. And he was probably also drawing all the right conclusions.

"I-I...."

"You?"

Rohit drew in a deep breath of fortitude. "Bhai... Bhaiya. You allowed me to call you Bhaiya, instead of the generic Mahi Bhai. Why?"

Mahi Bhai shrugged. "When you came in, hardly anybody called me Mahi Bhai; let alone Bhaiya."

"So it was more out of convenience or matter of habit?"

"Initially? Yes." Mahi Bhai walked, almost limped, to the recliner placed nearby and dropped into it. "But then it felt right, you know. Like when I used Cheeks, instead of Cheeku or Virat, like Virat preferred Boomer over Jassi, we prefer Harry to Hardik and so on. It was different. So yeah. There's that. But what of it, Rohit? You hardly ever use it. You prefer to use Mahi Bhai too."
