It was midnight when the two figures could be seen in the neighborhood, the obvious height difference between them could make a passerby laugh, yet no one could be out at this time of night.
"Nevis.." The light brown haired girl says sadly, looking at her childhood best friend.
The boy silently sobs, but still chooses to cover his face. A practice that he had been familiar with since he was a kid.
"..Sorry," Nevis sniffs. "I-I don't know why I'm crying, I must be so inconvenient right now.."
"Don't say that, it's okay to be like this, let it all out."
"I just- this is all so overwhelming. I feel like this is all my fault, no wonder why Vesper's mad at me-"
"Nevis."
"I.. shouldn't have talked in the first place, I just make things worse. People make it look so easy, connecting with someone else. It's so hard for me, I-I should've stayed silent, cause when I don't I just say the wrong things-'
"Nevis.."
"He hates me now." He sniffs once again, "He probably doesn't wanna talk to me anymore, I-I ruined everything."
"He's better off without me anyway, I'm just some deadweight he's been lifting. I'm nothing without him, but he's everything. Even without me."
"Nevis."
"Honestly, I was hurt when he started acting different. Because I knew that that wasn't him. I.. I just wanna be there for him right now, who knows what he's doing?"
"I want him," He pauses.
"To rely on me."
They're both silent for a while, the light brown haired girl in shock, yet she understands what he's trying to tell her.
The street lights flicker once again, and it's like their pity for one another. It's like their understanding.
"Oh, Nevis.." She says, opening her arms slowly and the said boy almost falls into the embrace, vulnerable.
He's not holding back anymore, he directly sobs in the genuine act of care he just received. Soleil's "shhh"es calming him, somehow.
"I-I like him, Soleil.." He sobs, the light brown haired girl hugs him tightly. Rubbing his back in a soothing action.
"But he's my best friend."
She doesn't say anything, only humming very faintly. He continues crying, the action giving him the feeling of safety that assured him that things will be alright.
Despite what others might say, Soleil really is the big sibling between them two. It can be seen by how she knows exactly what to do when he's going through a spiral of emotions.
She knows him completely, Nevis is the sibling she never had.
"For how long?" She asks after a while, not really specifying whether she meant how long he has been liking him or how long he will like him for. Despite the difference between the two questions, he already knows his answer.
"Forever." He says, leaving it up to her interpretation on which question he was replying to.
