First day of classes were completely different from the ones in the movies. There were different buildings for different classes. The classrooms were nice, not cement wall type at all. In fact most of the science rooms had at least one glass wall. Astronomy was pretty cool but English and Math were dull and hard.
I had piano next. I was looking forward to it. It was something I was interested in. Ya Tabby was in there but so what.
I walked into the music building and heard all the musical instruments. It surrounded me and I couldn't help the smile that crept onto my face. This was one thing that I was excited about. I hear so many different styles of music from around the world but I never got the chance to hear music created by regular instruments. I passed a choir room and heard some girls warming up. A few people waved at me as they passed and I waved back.
"Cabela, right?" A girl with strawberry blonde hair and pale blue eyes came up to me.
"Yah?"
"I think we have piano together." She smiled and started walking with me. "I'm Charlie."
We shook hands and moved out of the way for a guy with broken glasses who was moving a big drum.
"Nice to meet you." I smiled and turned a corner. We talked awhile about which pieces we've played before and which ones we loved playing.
We finally entered the big practice room that had about five or six keyboards facing a piano. There were two boys standing in the back laughing and then there was Tabby and another girl from her group. They sneered at me when I walked in and then at Charlie.
Charlie walked over to the side wall and I followed. One of the boys looked over at Charlie and smiled. I saw her blush a bit. I looked at her and gave her a knowing look. I may not have been to high school before but I knew when someone liked someone else.
"What?" She blushed harder.
"You like him and by the way he's been smiling at you, he likes you too." I nudged her.
"Todd is just a friend. We're from the same town." She twirled her hair looking away.
"Hey, you like him. Just admit it. I can see the signs and he likes you. He keeps looking over here and smiling." I watched as Todd looked over for the fourth time. "I'll prove it. I'll go ask him."
I took a few steps before Charlie grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
"Don't you dare." She hissed. I laughed and leaned back against the wall. A bell rang and a woman walked in. Everyone stood straight and waited for her to speak.
"I am Ms. Adams and I know all of you are level five pianist but with a new student, I would like to make new placements for seating. I would like my star student Tabitha to demonstrate how this will go."
Tabby sauntered up to the large piano and started playing. I had to admit she was good. When she was done she smirked at me and then went back to her friend.
"Ok it will go Todd, Richard, Charlie, Zoe, and then Cabela." Ms. Adams moved to the back of the class and watched each of us play. When it was my turn, I took a deep breath and started out slow. I heard snickering from Tabby and Zoe. I cleared my throat and just let loose. I wasn't even playing a song anyone knew; it was just something I decided to make up. It was my own song. When I finished, I turned to my class mates and kind of freaked out when I saw their faces. Everyone, except Tabby, were looking at me in awe.
