It's pouring the day you leave New York.
There's a certain irony to the weather that makes you smile despite yourself. It's a reminder of the life you had built, of the countless rainy days you spent holed up in Kate's office, drinking awful coffee and complaining about your co-workers.
You swear it'll be the last time you think fondly of the brunette but you know yourself too well to believe your lies. For all her flaws, she wasn't the worst friend you've ever had.
It's hard but you force yourself to ignore the way your heart aches when you think about leaving her behind. In your defense, she made her own bed and now you're both forced to sleep miles away from each other.
You don't really have a plan, you just know you need to be as far away as possible from the brunette. You also really don't want to be alone so you suck up your pride and go running back to a certain green-eyed witch.
You had left Wanda behind after the Westview fiasco. Not by choice but because she'd insisted it would be safer for you to go somewhere else, to start a new life away from her and the magic that you disliked using so much. It was a constant reminder of Agatha and all the stupid choices you had made.
New York had seemed like the best choice at the time and you had somehow managed to honor the Sokovian's wish not to contact her. To forget about her and her mistakes.
Now, though...now she's the only person you can think of running to.
All it takes is one quick spell and the realization that a life without dark magic isn't one you can live before you're standing on the porch of her small cabin in the middle of nowhere.
It's the middle of the night when you appear at her door and so much colder than you had expected. If it weren't for the cold, you might not have knocked on her door.
It takes a few moments for her to open the door and the second she does, her surprise is more than evident. "What are you doing here?"
You want to laugh but there's an air of disappointment clinging to her that lets you know she already knows the answer. You never did figure out how to fully block your mind from her.
"What do you think?" You respond, sounding far more bitter than you'd like.
Her disappointment only grows with your answer. Despite it, she simply sighs and steps aside to give you enough room to walk inside. "Come on, you'll catch a cold."
You don't waste time obeying her suggestion, barely holding back the question that clings to your lips. It's hard to believe the witch knew about Kate's vampire secret but you also wouldn't be surprised if she knew what awaited you the second you left for New York. Especially since she explicitly warned you not to fall for the brunette's charms.
You unfortunately had to learn things the hard way.
You could write multiple books on everything you've learned the hard way.
At the top of that list, though, is the true extent of a certain archer's vampire powers.
It takes less than a month for Kate to reach you again...through your dreams. Dreams that feel far too real and leave you a tad bit more breathless than you'll ever be willing to admit.
The first time it happens, you assume it's one of Wanda's new tricks, maybe it's her way of helping you cope with what (or rather who) you've left behind. You think it's weird but maybe a tad bit sweet and you make a mental note to ask her about it in the morning.
It's not until you realize that you're actively thinking that you start to worry.
To make matters worse, you're inside Kate's apartment...and she quite literally stumbles out of her bedroom to see you standing in the middle of her living room.
