With how popular it is right now, I'm surprised at how god awful most romance stories are. More specifically, things like dark romance becoming so popular on the internet.
It's one thing to include themes of abuse in your story. If you manage to portray it in a respectful manner, then I see no problem in writing about it. But it's another to romanticize/glorify said abuse, which trivializes the seriousness of the trauma people unfortunately go through.
Let me give an example. "It end with us", by Colleen Hoover, is the best example of how not to portray toxic/abuse relationships. Her work is deeply flawed, since she often romanticizes abuse and her books imply that suffering equates love. She also doesn't include trigger warnings for things like SA, abuse, and even mentions of suicide. It is very inconsiderate and irresponsible to not give warnings for readers, which leaves all the disgusting scenes as shock value. And just some very harmful stereotypes in general (i.e: Devin.)
That whole book is just a mess. And the other things written by the author aren't any better. Anyways..
And unfortunately, this (originally watty) book became popular on Tiktok. It spread around like a plague, and severely warped people's perception of a normal, healthy relationship. It also started to infect Wattpad too, which led to the birth of dark romance. Oh god, why do I have to suffer through this.

Oh boy, do I even have to say anything?
Please, for the love of god, do your research for what romance actually is. Things like dark romance should just be an offshoot of the horror genre, and stay there. God fucking dammit.

Watpad's Tropes and Cliches
HumorJust what the title says. A book about common tropes on here, dumb cliches and whatever else I can find onto here I can talk about. WARNING: ALL OF THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION!!! If you enjoy these things, that's okay, I won't shame you for it.
