I made it back to the house from the store with my hands full of groceries, and I couldn't help but breathe a small sigh of relief when I saw that my home was still standing, meaning that the kids did not do anything to destroy it... or at least the outside of it.
I shuffled the stuff in my hands and pulled out my keys so that I would be able to open the door when it was wrenched open from the inside to reveal a mad looking Mimi and an amused Trevor behind her.
I blinked and blinked again, not knowing why she was mad, and I couldn't help but wonder if her brothers and sister had done something to make her act like this and to become mad about something. "Amelia," I warned and tucked my head closer to my chest while I stared at her.
My "daughter" wagged her finger with a small scowl on her face, and I couldn't help but bite back a small snort. "Don't Amelia me, Young Lady," she scolded, and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in amusement and question while a small smile appeared on my face. "Where do you think you were going?" she asked, and her scowl grew deeper.
"Uhh... to the store to get groceries?" I asked and cocked my head to the side while I gave her a side eyed look because I had no idea what she meant and what she was wanting me to do. "Where else would I be going or doing?"
"Somewhere without us," Mimi said with a pout. She tucked her head closer to her chest and bit back a small sniffle, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl, even though all I wanted to do was laugh. "Why?"
"Because I wanted to go get this stuff done without someone bugging me for everything and the moon." I lifted the bags so that she would look at them before she looked at me with a blank look on her face. "I am making something that will take a while to cook for dinner, and I need to start it now."
Mimi pouted and folded her arms across her chest, narrowing her eyes while she looked at me. She didn't say a word while fake tears filled her eyes.
I bit back a small sigh and shook my head, feeling very annoyed. "Don't do that, Amelia," I said. "You know full well that that isn't going to work on me."
"Hmph." She pouted and looked at the bags before she looked at me. "Did you get anything for me?" she asked and cocked her head while she studied me. "Or for any of us?"
"It depends on if you all will help me unload these bags and put everything where they need to go," I said before I looked at the door that led to the basement before I looked at her again. "Where are the others?"
"They are still in the basement," Mimi said and shrugged and grimaced. "I wanted to get something to drink and then saw the Jeep pull into the driveway." She grinned and cocked her head to the side, looking at me with a crooked grin on her face. "I also wanted to see where you were."
I bit back a small laugh and nodded. "Of course, you did," I said before I licked my lips and cleared my throat. "Now, come on and let's go into the kitchen. Do you want to see if the others want to help?"
"No," she said and shook her head, and I raised an eyebrow in question.
"No?" I asked and cocked my head, looking at her mildly impressed but not surprised. "And why not?" I cocked my head further to the side and raised an eyebrow in question.
"Well, I want to get the thing that you have gotten us, first," Mimi said and shrugged with a small frown on her face. "I don't want them to get it."
"Hmph." I started to walk to the kitchen with Mimi following me. "I'm home," I called out, my voice echoing throughout the whole house. "If you want something that I got from the grocery store, then I am going to need your help."
"No, she doesn't!" Mimi yelled. "She doesn't have anything for you all."
The others started to clamber up the steps, and I knew that they were walking up the steps, ignoring what Mimi had said.
I gave her a weird look, biting back a small laugh. "Very funny, Mimi," I said coldly, and she grinned. "I am going to need help with the groceries, especially if you want food cooked later on."
Mimi shrugged and grimaced. She didn't say a word and gave me an innocent look, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl.
"You went to the grocery store?" I heard someone say from the stairs, and I could tell that it was Chrissie. "Why didn't you take us?"
"Because I wanted to get everything and not any extras," I said. "I might have gotten you things, but that is only if you help with the groceries, and I might need your help to get some stuff ready for dinner."
"Ok!" Michael exclaimed, bounding up the steps in front of the others and opening the door. "Did you get me some food?" He looked at me and cocked his head with a small smile on his face.
"Maybe," I said and set the bags on the table, "but you aren't going to get it until you are finished helping me with everything that I need to do. Is that understood?"
Michael rolled his eyes and scowled, narrowing his eyes. "Yes, yes, I know," he said with a small grumble in his voice. "Hand me over some stupid bags so that I can help break them down. Are we helping with dinner?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
I bit back a small laugh and nodded. "Maybe," I said and handed him a bag that I knew he would be able to handle by himself. "But I do not know yet, so let's just deal with this first, and that means this needs to go into the pantry. Ok?"
"What about the stuff that you need for dinner?" Ryan asked before Michael could leave. He furrowed his brows and cocked his head with a small frown on his face. "Do you want us to leave that stuff out so that you can have easy access to it?"
"No," I said and shook my head, biting back a small smile, and my heart grew warm. "You can put everything up. It doesn't matter. I will be able to get it eventually, so I do not mind at all."
"Ok, then I am going to work on this bag then. Bye." Michael started to walk to the pantry with the bag in his hands, ready to work and get his little treat after he was done.
And soon, he was followed by the others because they wanted something, too.
Hopefully, they would enjoy it because I had no idea when I would be able to get it for them next...
