As usual, Jasmine was exhausted.

But she had an Econ midterm today and couldn't skip. On top of that, apparently, there was a serial killer in town.

She's come to learn that nothing is ever calm in Beacon Hills.

That being said, Jasmine wasn't surprised to see cameras being installed in the school hallways. She had chalked it down to the school providing extra security to protect the students. It still felt eerie, being watched that closely. She knew cameras probably wouldn't do much 'protection' wise. But admin were probably doing so in order to appease overbearing parents.

Other than the cameras, a few weird things had happened that day: Allison's mom was their substitute in English and Stiles wasn't in school.

Jasmine had thought it was strange how Allison's family were quickly and discreetly filling up the admin rolls in her school. It might've just been a coincidence but something felt off about the whole thing. Even Allison seemed shocked when Mrs. Argent walked into the classroom.

Jasmine had thought that Stiles being absent was odd as she had never seen him miss a class. He didn't seem like the type to just skip, especially on a day where they had an Econ midterm. Maybe she had the wrong perception of him all along.

------

A few days had gone by and not a peep had been heard from Jasmine's friends. Not a text, not a call, not even a quick "hey" in the hallways.

It had felt like they were avoiding her. She would watch on as they would anxiously sit through classes and then jump up and leave as soon as the bell rang.

Something was wrong, she could feel it. Even if she couldn't, you didn't have to be the most observant person in the world to see the anxiousness written all over their faces.

Not to mention, the teen still hadn't been sleeping well.

She had continued to dream of snakes in one way or another. All of the dreams ending the same way, her being strangled to death.

She was leaving her history class and was on her way outside for her free period when the lights above her went out. The normal ugly luminescent lighting no longer lighting her path. It was dark, but the windows still allowed a fraction of light in.

As soon as the lights went out, Jasmine paused in her steps, clutching her books tighter to her chest.

Swallowing down the lump of fear in her throat, she continued on her way.

Hey, maybe they'll hire Allison's Uncle to fix the lighting. She thought to herself, trying to make light of the situation. She didn't know if Allison had an Uncle, let alone one that was an electrician, but she thought her joke was funny.

As she walked she forcibly came to a halt when she saw movement out of the corner of her eye. When she turned to look, she saw the retreating form of a reptilian-like tail.

And that's all she needed to see before she took off running down the hall. Even if it turned out to be nothing more than her sleep deprived mind playing tricks on her, she was not going to wait around and find out.

As she ran, a hissing sound began to fill her ears. The sound becoming louder and louder. She turned towards the first door she saw, pushing it open and locking it behind her.

Taking deep breaths and scanning her surroundings for any further danger, she saw she was in the girls locker room. Glancing back at the door, she held her breath as a figure passed by the greyed out window.
