It took quite a bit of walking and a short elevator ride, but Matthew had finally arrived at what he could only assume to be the room where the surgery would take place.

Despite his nerves, he was...pretty tired. He didn't really get a lot of sleep the night before, and now he was virtually running on fumes. He barely noticed Adams hold something out to him, until the doctor poked him in the shoulder with it.

It was a clipboard, with a pen attached. On the clipboard were a few papers, all of which Matthew was too tired to read through. He just flipped through them, found the spot that said "sign here," and scribbled his name down.

Adams handed the clipboard off to someone else, and walked over to the door of the operating room. Inside it was the typical operating table, and a series of robotic arms fixed to the ceiling, each with their own attachment on the end.

"Those robots will be your surgeons for today, Matthew," said Adams, when he noticed Matt's confused stare. "This kind of surgery requires the utmost precision, something no human can maintain for very long. Their every move has not only been pre-programmed, but they are equipped with an A.I. that allows them to adapt to anything that doesn't go according to plan. You are in the most capable hands you will ever know, Matthew."

Matt just stared at Adams blankly, before he just shrugged, replying, "okay. Sounds good to me, doc. When do we get this started?"

Adams motioned to the operating table, saying, "whenever you're ready. Everything has been prepared in advance. But...you will have to take your vest off, along with your shirt. Unless, of course, you're fine with having the robots cut them up during surgery. Same goes for the headphones, and...that thing." He pointed to Matt's MP3 player with a bit of distaste, as he said, "just put them on that table over by the operating table. I'll have someone keep them safe for you during the surgery."

Matt complied, and lay down on the operating table. Adams left the room, and everything was all ready to go. Except for one small detail, that is. The lab assistant that was tasked with retrieving the headphones didn't notice the MP3 player underneath it. When he left the operating room, the music player was still on the table directly next to the operating table when the doors locked and the surgery began.

Adams was positively LIVID. He paced around the observation room, occasionally giving the stink eye to the lab assistant in the room with him. All other scientists present just stuck to the edges of the room, pretending not to pay attention to the scene, so as not to incur Adams' wrath.

As for Matthew, the surgery went off without a hitch, if you ignored the music player that was now completely integrated into his arm, even down to the software that hooked his arm up to his nervous system. The anesthesia had yet to wear off, so he was just snoozing for the time being.

Meanwhile, Adams had finally snapped. He stopped his pacing, and turned directly towards the assistant, who flinched back a bit, knowing full well what was in store for him now.

When Adams finally spoke, you could practically see the steam coming out of his ears, despite his seemingly calm exterior. "Carl... You had one job... All you had to do... WAS GRAB THE DAMN MUSIC PLAYER, CARL!!" Adams stopped himself, took a deep breath in, and resumed in a slightly calmer tone, although you could easily hear how pissed off he was if you actually listened to him.
