witching hour

The hour when my clock says oh three is the most

Terrifying

Electrifying

Adrenaline filled

Hour of my day

I wake up

I roll over

I see '03:01' on my clock

And a shock of excitement shoots its way

D

O

W

N

My spine

The duvet is pulled right up to my chin

I lay on my back and shake with excitement

What if tonight is the night

The night that something crawls out from under my bed

Or the night that my wardrobe doors slide open

Or the night the windows rattle and the wind howls

Because 3am is the witching hour

Are they coming to get me tonight

Will i feel that electric feeling of being pulled from my bed

Will i feel the cold spindly fingers of Hecate wrap around my wrist as she pulls me from my bed

I quiver in my warm bundle of cotton

I shake with unwarranted adrenaline

The clock reads '03.57'

And then ticks over to '03.58'

I guess tonight was not the night

Maybe one day it will happen

Maybe one day I will become a folktale

The girl stolen from her bed in the middle of the night

Stolen

Taken away without a fight

Maybe one day i will become a legend.

But not tonight

I roll back over and close my eyes

The clock reads '03.59'

And the windows rattle slightly

One single time.

~ witching hour.
