A Broken Past
"Bukas na ang simula ng training niyo," Nurse Rara said as we exited the activity room, her voice calm yet authoritative. "Alam niyo na ba ang mga gagawin?" she added, her words lingering as we walked slowly down the hallway.
"Nakagawa na po si Princess ng weekly schedule namin," Faye responded with a smile, moving closer to wrap an arm around Princess, who shyly lowered her gaze, though a smile played on her lips.
"Opo, Nurse Rara. Sinend po ni Nurse Mond kagabi 'yung listahan ng mga activities para sa mga pasyente, kaya in-include na rin namin 'yung iba't ibang therapy na gagawin sa loob ng tatlong linggo. Ginawa na rin po namin 'yung schedule para mas organized." Princess explained, her voice steady with a quiet pride.
"Very good. Mukhang handa na talaga kayo," Nurse Rara remarked, clearly impressed.
"Syempre, Nurse Rara, cum laude namin 'yan eh," Aiahn chimed in playfully from beside me, earning a bashful look from Princess, who blushed under the praise.
"Tama na sa kaka cum-laude na 'yan," she said softly, trying to deflect the attention, but the smile on her face betrayed her enjoyment. I rolled my eyes internally at the exchange.
Tch. She acts like she doesn't want the compliments, but it's obvious she loves it. My thoughts wandered, but a nudge from the person beside me brought me back to reality. I quickly adjusted my expression and smiled at Nurse Rara.
"Ano po ulit 'yun, Nurse Rara?" I asked sweetly, softening my voice as I leaned in slightly.
"Mag-ingat ka sa pasyente mong si Archer," Nurse Rara said in a hushed tone, her eyes narrowing slightly. My brow furrowed in confusion. "Binigay sa akin ni Dra. Lucy 'yung file niyo, kasama ang mga assigned patients. Sobrang manipulative 'yan si Archer," she warned. "I'm just reminding you to be cautious during your interactions with him. Huwag mong hayaan na ikaw ang magpadala sa kanya."
A sly smile formed in my mind. Let's see who ends up being the manipulative one, I thought, though I kept my face neutral as Nurse Marj urged us to pick up the pace. We still had work to do before the day ended.
"Muli, pasensya na sa nangyaring insidente kanina," Nurse Marj said once we had gathered near the nurse's station. Her voice was gentler now, yet the weight of the day's events hung heavy in the air.
"Hindi natin maiiwasan ang mga ganitong sitwasyon, kaya lagi tayong maging alerto. Doble ang atensyon sa mga pasyente para masigurong ligtas sila at malayo sa kapahamakan," she reminded us, her eyes lingering on each of us, making sure her message was clear. Aiahn, still worried, raised his hand.
