The Plan

Archer Kai Garcia's Point of View
Nagsimula nang bumuhos ang malakas na ulan sa labas and my nurse trainee and I are here in room B. He gently tucked me into bed, ensuring the blanket wrapped around me perfectly. I really liked him very much. I smile at the thought.
"How's that?" he asked, his smile radiant. I gazed at him with admiration, returning his smile as sweetly as I could.
"Okay na po, Nurse Pogi," I replied, delighting in the way the blanket felt against my skin.
"Iiwan na muna kita dito ha," he said softly, his voice calm and reassuring. "Ma-lunch break lang kami and then mamayang 3 pm babalik rin kami para sa bibliotherapy niyo."
I nodded, my heart swelling with appreciation as I reached for his hand again. There was something comforting about his touch—despite its roughness, it made me feel secure. Sobrang swerte ko talaga na siya ang nurse trainee ko.
"Bumalik ka po agad ah!" I pleaded, my eyes searching his for a promise. I saw his expression soften as he let go of my hand to gently stroke my hair, a gesture he always does and I welcomed wholeheartedly.
"I will, but remember to behave, maliwanag? Like I said—"
"You don’t need everyone’s attention to be enough," I finished, recalling the advice he often repeated during our sessions.
He smiled again, a look of pride in his eyes that made my heart flutter. After a moment, he stepped away, leaving me in room B with my fellow patients.
It had been three days since he began training with me, and he was doing an exceptional job. If I could, I’d wish he could stay by my side until I recovered, but my Nurse Lemi was still a student.
"Archer!" Monica called from the nearby bed, her brow furrowed with concern. "Ano?" I replied, curious.
"Iiwan ka rin niyan, ng nurse trainee mo." saad ni Monica na may nakakalokong tingin. Mas lalo naman kumunot ang noo ko sa sinabi niya.
"Ano pinagsasasabi mo?" I shot back, my irritation evident, which only made her chuckle softly.
"Ang sinasabi ko, maniwala ka sa'kin. Tama lagi ang sinasabi ko. Malakas yata pakiramdam ko," she boasted, as if she had never been wrong. "Tsaka, ‘di ba, nagkatotoo ‘yong sinabi ko sa'yo noong huling grupo na humawak sa'tin?" she added nonchalantly before returning to her Rubik’s Cube.
Bigla naman akong napatulala dahil tama siya. Iyong huling nurse trainee na humawak sa akin, he didn't want me. Hindi naman sa ayaw niyang maging pasyente ako, but I thought he liked me. But when I did that thing to him, he left me. Iniwasan niya ako all throughout his duty here at St. Louis. And yes, I lied to Nurse Lemi. Just like him, I also liked my former nurse trainee.
But I knew Nurse Lemi was different. I felt it deep in my gut. He wouldn’t leave me until his three weeks here were over. I trusted him completely; he wouldn’t abandon me like everyone else had.
A moment later, we all turned our attention to the door as Dr. Lucy entered. She smiled at us, but her smile always sent a shiver down my spine.
"Children," she called, her gaze sweeping over us. "We’ll be having our bibliotherapy later at 3 PM. Alam niyo na ‘yon, di ba?" she asked, awaiting our responses. My roommates nodded, and I did too, eager to avoid another solitary moment with her. "Gusto ng mga nurse trainees niyo malaman kung anong story ang gusto niyong ikwento nila. Any suggestions?" she prompted, raising her eyebrows in inquiry.
