"I still can't believe you dad had an affair," Kelly Rivera says from next to Ashley while Angela rummages through her locker for her Algebra III book. "And that you have a little sister."
"I know right," Angela Long says as she grabs her math book from the top shelf of her locker. "Why would your dad even keep that from you?"
"Something about protecting them," Ashley answers as Angela closes her locker. "Of course, that's going to go down the drain once word gets out."
"Are you going to tell?" Kelly wonders, looking at the brunette.
"Of course not. I'm no telltale." Ashley responds with an eye roll.
Angela chuckles, just as the doors at the end of the hall open.
Two row of girls dressed in pink walk through the hallway holding pink stilettos in their hands.
"What's going on?" Kelly wonders as the girls begin handing out the shoes.
"Someone in the Fabulous Clique is throwing a party," Ashley answers with a sigh.
"How do you know?" Kelly asks just as Carla Graham stops in front of them with three girls around her.
"These are for you." The dirty blonde hair girl says as the three girls around her hand the HotChikas a pink stiletto. "It's an invitation to my Sweet Sixteen party on the twenty-eight." Angela turns the heel in her hands as Carla speaks. "This is just curtesy, you don't have to come."
"Oh, we'll be there." Angela says holding the show by the heel. "If anything just to see what you copied from Ashley's Sweet Sixteen."
"From the look of it," Ashley starts, twirling the heel. "It might've been everything. Tell me, is there going to be a fashion show?"
"Of course." The girl on Carla's left says with an eye roll.
"Just because there's going to be a fashion show, doesn't mean we copied you," Carla says with a glare as Angela and Ashley laugh.
"Thanks for the invite," Angela says with a smile. "We'll try not to steal the spotlight."
"Emphasis on try," Ashley smirks at the glaring girl before walking away with Angela and Kelly following her. "See you girls later."
Kelly separates from the girls by taking a right as Angela and Ashley take a left at end of the hallway.
"See you later." Angela waves to Ashley as she enters her Algebra III classroom at the corner of the hall. She quickly finds her seat at the back of the class and takes her phone out to take a picture of the 'shoe-vite'. She sends it to her boyfriend Carlos Ferreras with the tag: Desperate queen-wannabe is throwing a sweet sixteen bash.
Her phone buzzes seconds later with Carlo's response: Got the invite. He attaches a photo of his own shoe-vite. Angela's phone buzzes again with a new text:
We going?
It would be like handing them power if we didn't.
"Put everything away." Angela looks away from her phone as the teacher, Mrs. Trunk walks inside the classroom, her auburn hair up in a bun. "All electronics, books, notebooks. Clear your whole desk of everything but your pencil, eraser and scientific calculator."
Angela rolls her eyes but does as told along with her classmates.
The moment the bells rings, Mrs. Trunk closes the door, locking the late students out and goes to her desk to pick up the stack of papers that are their quiz.
