East Land Prep.
Wednesday, October 24. 7:00 A.M.
Angela, Ashley, Kelly and the other junior members of the Homecoming Committee are at the third quarter of the junior hall with Hawaiian decorations, that include palm trees, coconuts, hula dancers, and the words Aloha written at the top of the banner hanging across the hall.
The brightness of this third portion of the hall's use is in deep contrast to the simple black and white abstract banner down the hall, which represents Tuesday's black and white theme.
Angela fixes her light green skirt as she gets u from where she is kneeling in front of the banner skillfully placed on the lockers in a form that they could still be opened.
"We better win this week," Ashley says as they begin to pack up the excess materials. "I'm still upset our grade didn't win the recycling competition yesterday."
"The freshmen got lucky." Angela tells her. "At least it wasn't the seniors."
"True." Ashley acknowledges. "Let's go before people start arriving."
Angela walks inside her Advance Algebra 3 classroom at 7:59 to a classroom filled with girls representing their grade's theme. The juniors are dressed in tropical attire and the seniors are dressed in bouffant long skirts with stripes, a white blouse with a vest and a kerchief – the traditional attire of Portugal. Angela smiles, anxious for their afternoon picnic at West Land Prep so that she can see the senior boys in calsas, waistcoats and sombreros, if they even managed to get them in time.
Angela places two stapled lines appears on top of the pike atop of Mrs. Trunks desk before heading to the back of the classroom to her chair just as the teacher enters the classroom in conjunction with the bell and closes the door. "Please take a sheet of paper, calculator, pen and pencil as well as an eraser." The auburn-haired woman orders as he makes her way to her desk. "I don't want to see anything other than those items on your desk." She settees her briefcase on her desk her navy blue eyes on her students. "I hope you all turned in your homework" Her eyes briefly land on the pile of paper on the edge of her desk. She opens her black briefcase and takes out a stack of white paper. "This quiz shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes." She places the stack of paper in front of her. "You can come get your quiz." She tells them and they all stand up from their seats. "Don't bother looking at your classmate's, no two quizzes are alike." Angela rolls her eyes as Ms. Trunk goes through her quizzing and testing rules. "I want all the quizzes on my desk by 8:20, any quiz on a desk after that time will get a zero."
Angela takes her quiz and walks back to her seat, flipping through the pages. Sitting down, Angela goes back to the front pages, writing her name on the top right corner along with the date before moving on to her first fraction problem.
At 8:16, Angela is scribbling anxiously on her lined paper as she attempts to solver for X on her last question of the quiz. With a heavy sigh, she drops her pencil and writes the correct solution on the quiz paper in black pen.
She stands up and heads to the teacher's desk, placing her quiz just as the timer goes off. Angela smiles satisfactorily before turning on her heel and sitting down.
"Miss Queens, you can put that quiz away." All eyes go to the girl at the far right of the room. "Time's up." Nancy Queen scrambles the paper up and throws it in the trashcan net to her. "Now, now, you could've used that to review for your final." Mrs. Trunk smiles at Nancy before turning to the rest of the class. "Take out your textbooks. We are starting section 1.5 today."
