Part 4

Evielin  looked around the woods and after a long day of constant running they decide it's safe to set up camp.

"It's time we come up with a plan!" Uhtred said throwing logs in the already lit fire.

"Alright we are all ears."  Brida said sitting down on a log looking at Uhtred and Evie across the fire.

"We must find Ubba!" Evielin says while looking at Uhtred. "He will help, for he was loyal to my father.. once he comes to know that it was Danes..that it was Kjartan who killed my family he will definitely come to aid us."
Uhtred looks to Evie and Brida both women nodding their heads he sighs heavily and agrees.

"We must rest first, it's been a long day!" Uhtred tells them as he goes to lay down on the ground "Evielin... are you ok?"

Evielin who was now lying down beside him stares up at the twinkling stars above "No I don't think I am... I'm under a day my life has gone to shit, let's just go to sleep."

Concern written on Uhtred's face  as he  looked over her features in the dark night. " goodnight Evie."

They come across a village deciding to get some horses and food. While Brida eats Evie decides to brush her new horse who beautiful and white. she decided to name him Magni" because he looked strong and mighty.
All of a sudden Evie sees Uhtred running towards them.

"We must leave now!!! Ubba's men are here I overheard them talking about how I betrayed and killed Ragnar and his family!" Uhtred said, half out of breath as he goes to grab their belongings.

"What that's ridiculous!"  Evielin said, as she stopped what she was doing turning to look at him in disbelief.

"They must think you're dead along with your family, we must leave now!"
The next moment three men come down the alley and start running at them with swords.

"Yep time to go!" Evie says while grabbing
Brida's hand and running to get on their horses. They make it out of the village luckily unnoticed and decide to head to Winchester in Wessex with a new plan to speak to the king.

Reaching the king's gates Uhtred had requesting to speak to the king only for guards to start coming out threatening to fight them, until an older priest comes out from behind them.

"Uhtred? Uhtred my boy is it you?

"Father Beocca? Haha look at you."

"Look at you you're a man now!" Beocca says while bringing Uhtred in a hug.

"Yes haha and you look..old." Uhtred said jokingly, Beocca gives him a knowing look then
faces me and Brida.

"Beocca this is my best friend Brida and my sister Evielin Ragnarsdottir."

Beocca looked at Evielin.
"Ragnarsdottir?"

"Yes father, we have come a ways to speak to the king."

"The king is quite busy but you must speak to Alfred!"
Nodding their heads and following father Beocca inside they go to meet Alfred.

Meeting in Alfred's meeting room he's rather reserved on his opinions , clearly distrusting all pagans and Danes.

He goes on to speak of his plans when he is king to make all kingdoms in England united as one.
Once Alfred decides to leave to go pray Evie looks to distraught!

Uhtred had agreed on helping Alfred by going to Readingham to spy and gain knowledge of any danish military plans. She knew  he was doing it to gain trust as an Ealdorman and to eventually get back Bebbanburg.

" I'm not against this, you know I'm with you in your revenge just as you are in mine. But we must be careful." Uhtred felt comfort by this knowing his sister was with him through everything. Brida not so much. she couldn't stand the thought of any Saxon having any control over her and she didn't like Alfred's all mighty attitude and she made it known of her displeasure.

"Brida your thoughts?" He asked her next .

"You're both FOOLS to put trust in him!" Brida's raised tone spreads in the small room.

"I put trust in Uhtred do NOT mistake that." Evie says sternly to Brida causing her to shut her mouth.
Uhtred looks hurt by Brida's words but feels comfort with Evie's.

"We do what we must."
Both Uhtred and Evie nod at each other in a silent understanding.
