An inky darkness and chill had seeped into the Red Keep, covering every inch of the castle. Alerted by Helaena, Ser Harrold found the wailing Queen clutching her son's decapitated body to her chest. The sound of dogs barking echoed off the wall as the search for the young Prince's head began, scouring every inch of the castle for the perpetrators.

Warmth seemed to seep into Vaella's bones causing her to stir. She blinked slowly, eyes focusing on the world around her. She found herself in familiar apartments, laid out on a plus settee. Her eyelids fell closed before snapping open as fear and adrenaline coursed through her. She scrambled up into a sitting position, arms wrapping tightly around herself to hold her together.

"Vaella."

Wide eyes snapped to where the voice had sounded, relaxing slightly as Otto carefully lowered himself onto the cushion beside her. He reached out slowly as if nearing a wild animal, before laying a hand on her shoulder.

Her body slumped at his touch, launching herself forward to clamber onto his lap. Otto's arms wrapped tightly around her. She buried her head in his chest, breathing in the scent that was entirely him. Her fists clenched around the fabric of his doublet, anchoring her to him. The steady beating of his heart acted as her guide, matching her breathing to the rhythm.

"I'm here." He whispered, running his hand up and down the expanse of her back.

"They killed him," Vaella whimpered, clutching at Otto's doublet. "They killed Baelon."

He tensed at the words, knowing them to be true but praying that by some miracle it had simply been another one of Vaella's nightmares. "I know," He pressed a kiss to the side of Vaella's head, tugging her closer to him. "The gates have been shut. The search progresses. The villain will be found."

"The twins?"

"Unharmed," He answered. "Safe with Aemma and Aegon."

Vaella nodded, pulling her head back to meet Otto's gaze. His hand moved from the back of her head to cup her cheek. "I lost.." She took a deep breath, attempting to calm herself enough to speak. "I was with child, Otto. And I didn't know," Tears steadily began to spill down her cheek, wetting his thumb. "I didn't know until they... until Baelon."

"They will pay for this." His eyes burned with vengeful anger.

She pushed back against his chest, trying to stand. "Who will pay?"

"Whosever hand did this or caused it to be done," His grip on her grew tight, holding her in place as his eyes bore into her, beseeching her to cast away whatever familial love she still held for Rhaenyra. "Our son is dead, Vaella. Will you still refuse to act?"

Vaella pulled his hands off of her, scrambling to her feet. She stumbled back, eyes wide as Otto stood after her. "Do you not think I blame myself?" Her gaze fell to her hands, still seeing the red that had been scrubbed clean. "I have dreamt of his death for years. Always waking with warnings on my tongue that I could not voice."
