Jungkook leaned against the bar, feeling the weight of Namjoon's curious gaze on him. He had made the decision to confront this man, the one who had once been a significant part of Yoongi's life. The jealousy simmered beneath his skin, and he had to keep his composure as he forced a smile.
"So, tell me everything about you, Detective Kim Namjoon," Jungkook said, trying to sound casual as he brushed his fingers against Namjoon's arm, a gesture meant to establish some kind of connection.
Namjoon chuckled, his eyes lighting up with interest. "Well, there's not much to tell, really. Just a guy trying to make a difference in the world, one case at a time." He took a sip of his drink, his demeanor relaxed, almost charming. "And you? What brings you to this bar on a Friday night?"
Jungkook felt a flicker of annoyance at the ease with which Namjoon spoke. "Just looking for a break from my usual routine," he replied, forcing himself to maintain eye contact. "I work in an office. It can get pretty boring."
"Office work, huh?" Namjoon grinned, leaning in slightly. "Must be nice to have a desk job. I could use a little less excitement sometimes. Being a detective isn't always as glamorous as it sounds."
"Excitement can be overrated," Jungkook said, his tone sharp as he attempted to gauge Namjoon's reaction. "But I guess it's all about perspective."
Namjoon raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "True. You seem like you have a lot on your mind. Everything okay?"
Jungkook forced a laugh, the jealousy coiling tighter in his chest. "Just curious, I guess. You know, about what it's like to deal with... difficult situations."
Namjoon nodded, taking another sip of his drink. "It can be tough. But it's also rewarding. Knowing you've helped bring justice to a victim or closure to a family? That's what keeps me going."
Jungkook clenched his jaw, his heart racing as he thought about Yoongi. He knew how deeply the past still affected his boyfriend. "And what about your past? Any relationships that have complicated things for you?" he asked, pushing himself to dig deeper.
Namjoon looked momentarily taken aback. "That's a loaded question," he said, chuckling lightly. "Let's just say, my job hasn't made it easy to maintain relationships. People tend to get intimidated."
"Intimidated?" Jungkook echoed, smirking. "Or maybe they just realize how much of a catch you are and feel unworthy."
Namjoon's smile widened, but there was a hint of something more serious beneath it. "I don't know about that. I guess I just haven't found the right person yet." His eyes flickered for a moment, almost as if he was searching Jungkook's face for something.
Jungkook felt his stomach twist. "Right person, huh? So, you're still looking?" The jealousy bubbled within him, threatening to spill over. He had to remind himself that Namjoon had no idea about him and Yoongi.
"Maybe," Namjoon replied, his voice light but his gaze serious. "But I think I've learned to focus on myself for now. It's important to be whole before you can share your life with someone else."
"Wise words," Jungkook said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "But I think some people are just lucky enough to find their 'whole' in someone else." He leaned in a little closer, trying to assert his presence. "Like what if you're missing out on something great because you're waiting for the perfect moment?"
Namjoon studied him, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "You have a point. But sometimes, the right person comes along when you least expect it," he said, his voice dropping slightly as if he were sharing a secret.
Jungkook's heart raced. "And how would you know if that person is right for you?" he pressed, desperate to uncover more about Namjoon and his connection with Yoongi.
"It's about trust, I think," Namjoon replied, his expression earnest. "And being open. You can't build something real without honesty."
Jungkook felt a pang in his chest. He wanted to scream that he was the one who had Yoongi now, that he was the one deserving of his trust and love. But instead, he smiled tightly. "You sound like a romantic."
Namjoon chuckled, shrugging. "Maybe I am. But I also believe in being realistic. Love can be complicated, especially in my line of work."
"Complicated," Jungkook echoed. He took a breath, feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety as he prepared to share more about his own relationship. "You know," he said, glancing at Namjoon, "I really am in love with my boyfriend."
Namjoon's eyebrows raised, genuine curiosity lighting up his face. "That's awesome! It sounds like a good relationship. How did you two meet?"
"Through some mutual friends," Jungkook replied, a smile creeping onto his face as he thought about Yoongi. "We hit it off right away. It just felt... natural, you know? Like we've known each other forever."
Namjoon nodded, a soft smile on his lips. "That's how it should be. It's nice to find someone who just gets you."
"Exactly," Jungkook continued, his heart swelling with affection for Yoongi. "We have this amazing connection. He supports me, and I really can't imagine my life without him. He's just... everything to me."
As he spoke, Jungkook felt his jealousy start to fade just a bit, replaced by the warmth of his feelings for Yoongi. It was refreshing to share that with someone, even if it was Namjoon. He could see the sincerity in the older man's eyes.
"That sounds really special," Namjoon said, his smile genuine. "It's important to have that kind of support, especially in tough times."
Jungkook nodded, feeling a surge of affection for Yoongi wash over him. "Yeah, he really is my rock. I just hope we can navigate everything that comes our way. Life can be complicated, but I'm willing to put in the work."
Namjoon clinked his glass against Jungkook's. "To love and the effort it takes to make it work. Here's hoping you two stay strong."
"Thanks," Jungkook replied, feeling a sense of camaraderie with Namjoon, despite the underlying tension. They both raised their glasses and took a sip, the moment lingering in the air.
As the night wore on, Jungkook felt a mixture of relief and anxiety. He didn't want to overstay his welcome, and the easy conversation with Namjoon had left him feeling more at ease, yet still protective of his relationship with Yoongi.
Eventually, Namjoon checked his watch. "I should probably get going. Early morning shift tomorrow," he said, his tone regretful.
"Yeah, same here," Jungkook replied, feeling a twinge of disappointment that he didn't ask about his job. "It was nice talking to you, Namjoon. I appreciate the advice."
"Anytime," Namjoon said, standing up and giving Jungkook a warm smile. "And if you ever want to chat again, just let me know. I'm always around."
Jungkook nodded, watching as Namjoon walked away. As soon as he stepped outside, Jungkook pulled out his phone, his heart racing at the thought of Yoongi. He quickly typed a message before second-guessing himself.
After a moment's hesitation, he decided to call instead. The phone rang, and Jungkook felt a rush of anticipation. When he heard Yoongi's voice on the other end, his heart soared.
"Hi baby," Yoongi answered, sounding a bit surprised but happy. "What's up?"
"Hello, my love. I was wondering if you're free to see me tonight," Jungkook said, feeling a mixture of urgency and longing. "I really want to be with you."
"Of course," Yoongi replied, his voice warm and inviting. "I was just winding down for the night. Where should we meet?"
"Can I come over?" Jungkook asked, his heart racing at the thought of being close to him. "I just want to be with you."
"Yeah, I'd love that," Yoongi said, and Jungkook could almost hear the smile in his voice. "Come over whenever you're ready."
"Okay, I'll be there soon," Jungkook replied, excitement bubbling up inside him. He ended the call, a smile spreading across his face as he made his way to Yoongi's place, eager to lose himself in the comfort of his boyfriend's presence and forget about Kim Namjoon.
