My pulse pounded in my ears as I stared at the dark figure in the corner of the room. The masked man’s presence was unnervingly silent, his dark clothing blending seamlessly with the shadows.

My breath came in short, sharp bursts, each one trembling with fear.

“Who are you?” I demanded, my voice shaking despite my attempt to sound firm. “What do you want?”

The masked man’s lips curled into a sinister smile, though it was obscured by the mask.

“You really don’t know? You’re quite the little actress, aren’t you?” His voice was smooth but carried a chilling undertone that sent shivers down my spine.

I took a step back, my heart racing faster with each step. “Stay away from me. I’m calling the police.”

He chuckled darkly, his eyes glinting with menace. “Oh, you can try, but you might not get the chance.”

My panic surged. I glanced around the room, searching for anything I could use as a weapon.

My eyes landed on a heavy vase on the bedside table. I seized it, my hands shaking as I lifted it with all my might.

“You think that’ll stop me?” the masked man taunted, taking a deliberate step forward.

Without a second thought, I hurled the vase at him. It crashed against the wall with a deafening shatter, but he barely flinched.

His dark eyes locked onto mine with a cold intensity as he advanced toward me, unperturbed by the shattered glass at his feet.

In my frantic state, I stumbled backward, my legs giving way as I collided with the edge of the table. Pain shot through my head as I fell, disorienting me.

I tried to rise, but the room spun around me, and my vision blurred with tears.

The masked man’s footsteps grew closer, the sound of his approach a relentless, rhythmic thud.

I dragged myself toward the bathroom, desperate for escape. My heart pounded so loudly it drowned out everything else. I threw the bathroom door open, stumbling inside and slamming it shut behind me.
