PRESENT
I watched Ishita sitting on the edge of the bed, her shoulders slumped as if the weight of the last three months was pressing down on her.
Her eyes, usually so bright, looked dim and exhausted. I could feel the heaviness in the air, the unspoken words hanging between us.
“It wasn’t your fault, you know,” I said softly, stepping closer. “None of this was ever your doing.”
She glanced up, her eyes reflecting a mix of pain and disbelief. “But I’m the one who has to go through with this marriage, Eunwoo. It feels so… wrong.”
I took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. “You deserve to be happy. Not trapped in something that makes you feel this way.”
She looked away, tracing the patterns on the comforter with her fingers. “What choice do I have? It’s what’s expected of me.”
I knelt beside her, wanting to reach out but unsure if she wanted the contact. “You always have a choice. You can fight for what you want. For who you want to be.”
A tear slipped down her cheek, and I felt a pang in my chest. “What if I don’t know what I want anymore?” she whispered, her voice trembling.
“Then let me help you find it,” I urged gently. “You’re not alone in this. I’ll stand by you, no matter what.”
Her eyes met mine, searching for something—hope, maybe. “Can you really promise that?”
I nodded, feeling the gravity of my words. “Always. You’re stronger than you think, Jaan. Don’t let this situation define you.”
As I reached out to wipe away her tear, my heart ached for her.
“I know it’s going to be hard, but the child you’re carrying is innocent. Please don’t harm him.”
