6. Envy

You walk around like you're so high,
all your little victories,
but do you ever stop and see
 how it eats you alive,
 this green-eyed monster
that makes you think you're above everyone else?

You glare and you fume
 when someone else shines,
 like their light
 is somehow stealing from yours.
You can't stand to see joy
 that isn't yours to control,
 and you gnash your teeth
 when others succeed

It's pitiful, really—
how you wrap yourself in jealousy
like a second skin,
thinking everyone's out to outdo you,
when really,
they're just living their lives,
while you're stuck
in the shadow of your own envy.

You complain and whine
about how unfair it is,
 but the only unfair thing
is how you let this green monster
 twist your mind
 and turn every moment
into a reflection of your insecurities.

So go ahead, keep stewing,
 keep telling yourself
that everyone's out to get you,

while you choke on your own bitterness,
and watch as the world moves on,
leaving you behind in the wreckage of
your own making.
