The rain was just starting to slow down as I pulled up to a motel just outside the city, but my heart rate was not about to slow. I had almost hit someone just a moment earlier on the street. He must have been insane! He was standing right on the edge of the road and I looked at my radio for one moment to fix the station, and I nearly ran him down with my black Peugeot 206cc. I pulled over for a second and asked if he was alright, he called me "psycho" and stated he was fine. I would've offered him a ride since it was pouring, but he can call a cab. I don't want to be inviting a stranger into my car in the middle of the night. Strangers that creep along the side of roads in the rain especially!
I got out of my car and went to the desk inside the motel. Of course no one was there. I rang the stupid bell they had sitting on the desk. I rang it twice. Finally someone arrived. He gave me a key to room 102 and grumpily went back round to the door he came from. I went to my car to get my purse. The damp smell of Earth circled into my nose as I walked to door 102. I went inside, cracked a window and fell instantly onto my bed. I began thinking of the events of that night. I was at a party. It was at my best friend Megan's boyfriends house. His name is Ron. They've been dating for a solid year now. Megan has been my friend since forever. The party was on the outskirts of Manchester. Ron's bud Jason kept trying to come home with me so I told him I was going to a friend's house. Well my only friend is Megan and she was busy with Ron tonight and my house is two down from hers so I had to come to this cheap motel. I couldn't hurt Jason's feelings but I don't want to get with him at all.
I used my black hoodie as a blanket because my mom told me motel sheets are dirty. I fell asleep fast.
At about 7 am I woke to the smell of cigarette smoke floating into my room from outside. I rubbed my eyes and opened my door just a crack. Outside the room to my right a boy was sitting on the motel steps smoking. He was like nothing I'd ever seen, but also familiar to me.
"Hello?" he said, startling me. I didn't realize how long I'd been staring at him for.
"Hi, uh, I'm sorry." I shook my head. I was being so dumb!
"Do you smoke?" He held his cigarette out to me.
"Erm sometimes." I said and stood in front of him, taking the smoke from his hand and taking a drag. He watched me with one eye closed because the sun was in his eyes. I sat down next to him. He was beautiful.
"Matty." He stated his name and held out his hand to shake.
I took it and said "Julia."
"Hello Julia. You nearly killed me last night!" I nearly choked on the smoke. It was him? This crazy dude was the guy I nearly man slaughtered with my car?!
"Oh God I am sorry! I didn't know it was you! It was so dark!"
"It's okay!" He laughed. He must've recognized me because the lights in my car lit up my face.
"I truly apologize." I said again and he nudged my shoulder with his.
"I accept your apology." He smiled at me. His eyes were brown and so wild with light and energy. His hair was dark and crazy. We talked about how charmingly strange the motel was. He was so sweet. I could listen to his voice for the rest of my life. He told me he was at the motel because he lent his car to his friends to go and party but they needed it right then and he had to walk to the nearest motel. He walked to the motel in the rain so his friends could take his car! What a weird bunch of guys. When Matty laughs his entire face lights up like a star.
"Let's do something together right now." Matty got up and threw the cigarette butt on the ground. He held his hand out to me to help me up. When I grabbed his hand I felt warm in the bottom of my stomach. Butterflies.
"Do something? Like what?" I nearly tripped getting up. He makes me clumsy.
He smirked at me. "We could..." He stepped closer to me and made a sexy face. I probably drooled. "...go to the beach!"
"Oh! Yeah! Let's... do that." I laughed awkwardly and tucked my hair behind my ears. My hair was sweaty and gross from dancing last night with Megan and Ron. I needed to wash it. "Uh well I can drive us there but we've gotta stop in at my house if that's alright." I also needed to grab my beachwear.
"Okay let's go!" Matty said and he went round to the side of my car and waited for me to unlock it. I was a little nervous to let a guy into my life that I'd known for all of 20 minutes but for some reason I felt this connection to him. He made me want to do things. All kinds of crazy things.
