"So where should I drop you off?" I asked him when we were getting closer to my neighborhood.
"My flat, please." He smiled at me and it made me feel so special. So out of place to how I usually felt. He makes me feel excited and girly and out of control, but in the best way.
I pulled up at his flat a moment later and we both got out of the car. I leaned against side of my car and he stood in front of me.
"Well, I really enjoyed today, love," Matty said. He was standing really close. I could kiss him. I knew I could. I was too nervous. I played with the hem of his T shirt I still had on, and told him I had fun today too.
I took a leap of faith. "Tomorrow uh," I stammered, "Tomorrow night, do you want to go to this art show thingy with me. It's kinda lame but uh..."
"Tomorrow? I can't! Tomorrow night I actually have a gig at The Waterhouse with my band."
"You're in a band?" I was shocked. He's so hot. Now he's even hotter.
"It's called The 1975." He scratched the back of his neck and smiled his gorgeous smile. "I'd love to come to the art show thingy, I promise, but I have to go with the guys. I'm the singer."
"Really?" I was even more excited. I could listen to Matty talk all day and it'd be even more amazing to hear him sing!
"Yeah, you should come see us sometime!"
"I would love to! I'll come tomorrow night!"
"Don't you have to go to an art show?"
"I can come after. It's early in the evening. It's okay that I come right?"
"Yeah, sounds great. I'm happy to have you come." Matty looked genuinely surprised I was so interested in his band. I tucked stray pieces of hair behind my ears. I found myself suddenly staring at his lips. I bet he'd be the best kisser.
"Give me your phone." Matty put his hand out to me and I gave it to him. He put his number in it and texted himself to have my number. "See you tomorrow, babe."
"See you then." I could feel myself blushing so I quickly got in my car. He walked towards his home and I checked him out one more time. Honestly he couldn't get any sexier unless he was naked. I snorted at myself for being a weirdo and began driving home. Today was amazing. He's already changing me I can feel it. He's making me a happier version of me. I didn't know I could feel this good.
When I got back to my place I called Megan and told her about this strange boy I met.
"He sounds totally hot! When can I meet him?" Megan asked. She and Ron were out shopping.
"I don't know! I just met him this morning!"
"Well it sounds like you could wake up to that every morning!"
Megan was so boy crazy. Even since she's been dating Ron she's always trying to set me up with someone. She was over the moon excited that I'd spoken to a boy by myself, let alone spent the day with him. It all seemed a bit insane to me too.
"You're coming to my art show tomorrow night right?" I pulled a few outfit choices out of my closet while she yapped on on speaker phone.
"We wouldn't miss it for the world! You're finally letting us see your stuff! And your very own art show of your own work at 18! It's all too amazing!" I heard Ron say something about 'peaches vs nectarines' and she said she had to go.
"Okay, see you tomorrow. Dress Ron up nicely!"
"I promise we'll both look dashing." Megan said and hung up.
This art show was a big deal to me. I'd been painting and drawing since I could crawl. I mean, it didn't look any good until I was about 10 and then I was thrown into art classes by my mother. She had a friend who worked in the art business and he was letting me show off my stuff like a real artist! That's my dream. To be creative for a living. I guess that's Matty's dream too, with music.
I pick out a purple dress that looks elegant but not too elegant for the art show, and then I stood in front of my closet, hands on my hips, staring at my clothes. "What does one wear to a 'gig'?" I think aloud to myself. "Black? Black." I grab a black drop armhole vest that had a yellow smiley face on it, and black jeggings. I chose some black boots to wear with it and felt satisfied.
I hold up the purple dress to my body and look in the mirror. The fabric ends just above my knees and is flowy at the bottom, tight at the top. I stare at my reflection and feel nervous for the art show. I'm also nervous about the gig. I'm nervous but I also have that delightful butterfly feeling in my stomach. Tomorrow will be a long night, in the best way.
