I stood in the crowd, my heart beat thumping loudly. So loud I think for a moment the people near me can hear it. But I know they can't. The crowd is screaming. They're screaming for Matty, the man who sings so beautifully well and flawlessly dances around the stage. They're screaming for Adam, the man who plays the most gorgeous guitar riffs you've ever heard. They're screaming for George, the man who made your heart race and made your hands fly into the air in fists by playing the drums so skillfully and passionately. They're screaming for Ross, the man who made every song whole and delightful and crazy badass. They're screaming for The 1975, the band that was making the crowds dreams come true right there in the air.
Beside me Kaci was screaming and smiling. She was jumping up and down, singing along to the chorus we'd only just figured out. Then there was all the others crowded around us, grinning, dancing, feeling the music. I felt myself feeling the music, and I jumped and squealed and sang along with my friends as the loveliest sound in the world swung through the air toward us, through us.
After many songs, I was really thirsty. Kaci and George made eye contact and she squealed and waved. He winked at her, and the crowd all went wild. I stepped out of the crowd and went to buy some water. I downed the first bottle in about 3 seconds and bought another to take back to our spot in the sea of people. But as I turned around I wacked right into a girl carrying a beer in a cup. It splashed all over both of our chests.
"Fuck!" I said looking at our shirts. "I'm so sorry!"
"No, God, I am!" She replied and we looked at each other's facial expressions and both burst into laughter.
"Let's go into the restaurant over there and wash up?" I said to her and grabbed her wrist. She nodded and we walked towards the nearest building. It was kind of a high end restaurant, and we didn't exactly look high end at that moment. We asked if we could use their restroom and of course they turned us away. So we began walking down the street looking for some type of corner store or something. When we'd gotten quite far away from place the boys were performing at, she told me we should just go back and hop in her car. Her house was a two minute drive away. In the car, she told me her name was Isla. We went into her house and she lent me a clean top.
"Thank you so much! I dunno if I could've stood in that crowd soaking wet, smelling like beer!" I said to her.
"Me neither! And don't thank me! It was my fault we were in that mess!"
We both realized we were thirsty again (it was so hot outside) and we grabbed some beers from her fridge. She didn't want to drive obviously so we started walking back. She asked who I'd come with and I told her about how me and Matty were some sort of thing, and I was here with my friends in the crowd. I also told her about Nicole and Matty.
"That must be completely weird for you." Isla said as we strolled along.
"It is."
She was there with her cousin but she ditched her for some dude and that's why Isla was wondering about by herself. I told her to come to the after-party with us. When we finally got back to the show, the boys were on their second last song. I was sad to have missed so much of their gig but it was the first of many, and I did need a clean shirt. Isla joined us to dance to the last two songs and during the last one I seen Matty scanning the crowd.
"The ultimatum's a ridiculous joke,
I'm gonna pick the option that allows me to smoke,"
Finally he laid his eyes on me.
"But I'm alright. Yeah it's alright."
He looked so damn handsome. I sang loud back to him, though I knew he couldn't hear me.
"Yeah so far it's alright, alright baby!
Yeah so far it's alright, alright baby!
Yeah so far it's alright, alright baby!"
And I looked around at my incredible friends.
And everything was perfect.
"Yeah so far it's alright, alright baby!!!"
//okay so one more update tonight! let's go//
