Long Way Home: 5 Seconds of Summer
~Luke~
*First person POV is used, and the character is a girl, if you guys have song suggestions let me know in the comments*
I could feel the sun burning at my skin as the convertible's top slowly melted behind me. I was sitting in the passenger's seat, dressed in shorts and a tank top, of my boyfriend's 'brand new' Mustang convertible.
"So," Luke asked from the driver's seat, his smile wider than ever, "where do you wanna go?"
"Where you want to take me," I smiled at him. He beamed, the sun making his hair look even more like pale gold.
"Well we certainly can't just take you home, so...we'll take the long way,"
I felt my eyebrows scrunch, "There's a long way?"
"There is now."
He pressed on the grass and dust flew upwards behind us. I grinned and let out a small laugh. I pressed the radio's 'on' button and synced up my phone.
"Play Green Day! Please!"
I rolled my eyes and scrolled through my song selection, tapping on the first Green Day song I saw.
"Yes! Holiday!"
Yeah we're taking the long way home
'Cause I don't wanna be wasting me time alone
I wanna get lost and drive forever with you
Talkin' 'bout nothing, yeah, wherever, baby"Hey, babe," Luke said, glancing at me from the driver's seat.
I looked at him, brushing a hand over part of my short hair.
"When's your curfew?"
"My parents want me back by midnight...why?"
I saw him smirk and the sun bounced off his lip ring for a second or two,
"You won't be back by then."
He pressed his foot harder against the gas petal and we zoomed forward, making me grip my beanie for life.
"Luke!" I screeched as he laughed.
"What? Loose your beanie?"
I huffed and crossed my arms over my chest.
So we're talking the long way home
Tonight
Take me back to the middle of no where
Back to the place only you and I share
Remember all the memories
Fireflies and make believeIt seemed like we drove for years. We started in California, and we somehow ended up in the desert of Nevada. The road we drove on hadn't seen a car in a long while, so dust flew everywhere like tan clouds.
The sun started to set across the red looking rocks of the Nevada desert and the slight chill of the night made goosebumps crawl up my arms. I pulled Luke's zip-up hoodie from behind his seat and tugged it on. It was baggy and gave me the opportunity to have sweater paws.
I glanced to my right as the song on the radio changed again to see fireflies starting to appear. Luke slowed the car down and pulled off of the road and into the sandy dirt.
"What are we doing?"
He gave me his heart melting smiled and jumped out of the car, popping open the trunk. I unbuckled my seat belt and stood next to him. In the trunk of the convertible, was a blanket and a cooler in front of his guitar case.
"I meant to do this when it was daylight outside, but I figured you'd like this better than baking in the sun."
Kicking back at the old school yard
Singing songs on our guitars
This is our reality
Crazy stupid you and me
We know this is the way it's supposed to be*Two Hours Later*
"C'mon! Please? Just one song!"
He rolled his eyes as he unlocked his guitar case and grabbed it by the neck,
"One, that's it, just because you're cute."
I could feel the smallest amount of heat rush to my face as I beamed.
"The boys and I are working on this one, so it's not finished."
"Let me hear it!"
He started to strum and sing,
"We're taking the long way home
'Cause I don't wanna be wasting my time alone.
I wanna get lost and drive forever with you,
Talking about nothing, yeah, forever, baby.
So we're taking the long way home...
Tonight."I beamed widely,
"That's awesome!"
"Good, because I've been writing it for two days now...it's for you."
My heart suddenly melted in my chest, I had known for a few weeks that I love Luke, but I couldn't find the courage to say it.
"Luke...I want to tell you something..."
He put his guitar down next to him and faced me,
"What's up?"
I took in a deep breath,
"Ithinkiloveyou."
His eyebrow arched,
"You what?"
I sucked in a large gulp of air and tried to get my hands to stop shaking.
"I love you."
Our eyes met and I could see how clear they were in the dry desert night air. A small gust of wind flew by as and suddenly Luke's lips were pressed against mine. My eyes closed as our lips locked together.
When we broke apart, he held my hands and helped me stand,
"I love you more."
His hands pressed against my waist and the small of my back, shooting shivers up my spine. He pressed me against his warm chest and I draped my arms around his neck.
So we're taking the long way home
'Cause I don't wanna be wasting my time alone
I wanna get lost and drive forever with you
Talkin' 'bout nothing, yeah, wherever, baby
So we're taking the long way home
Tonight
