Part 2~Ashton~
Ashton's eyes fluttered open slowly, his vision too blurry to make out what room he was in. All he knew was that everything around him was an almost blinding white. He turned his head and a searing pain shot through his head and stopped behind his eyes. His vision cleared slightly, exposing colors other
than white. The outline and pigments
of another person formed to his left.He knew your skin tone, he knew the color of the sweater you were wearing, he did buy it for you after all.
Ashton also knew the look of disappointment you'd give him if he opened his eyes anymore. The look of pure disgust and anger.
But when he opened his eyes, the expression he thought he was going to get...wasn't there.
He saw tears in the eyes he often got lost in, he could see dark circles under your eyes, and your hair was in the messiest bun he'd ever seen.
"Ashton?"
The pain in you voice was almost too much for him to handle.
"Ashton, can you hear me?"
Ashton opened his eyes completely this time, but he wouldn't meet yours.
Suddenly, he could smell something sweet, it was vanilla. It was the perfume you always wore, and it drove him crazy. He loved the way you smelled when he would hug you and kiss your forehead.
You had him wrapped in a somewhat awkward hug, but it was the closest you could manage, given that he was laying in a hospital bed.
"Ashton! I was so worried, I'm so sorry, I should've paid more attention-"
"It's...it's okay...I let you down..."
Ashton could barely speak, his brain was exhausted.
"No, I saw how you were acting, I just didn't want to think that you were falling back to that. I'm so sorry, I wasn't there for you..."
You started crying and shaking. Ashton couldn't stand to see you cry, it made him feel like doing the same thing.
Ashton tried to hug you back with the one arm that wasn't hooked to the IV, but the angle was too strange.
You had to swallow a sob that kept trying to crawl up your throat.
"The doctors say you can be released tomorrow, but you have to go through therapy...better therapy than when you were younger."
Therapy...
The countless times Ashton has sat in a room from two to four hours once a week came back to him.
"How do you feel, Ashton?"
"What makes you feel this way, Mr. Irwin?"
The memories made him sick. He wasn't going to do that again. But there was one complicated problem...
He wanted to feel that feeling of relief again. After the pills had gone down his throat with a little bit of a gag, the dizziness overcame him. He left behind the sense of pain and sorrow for a moment. He felt weightless.
But he knew that his time wasn't up. At the end of the weightless feeling, suddenly, he could see every problem he had ever faced. And solutions instantly came to him. Every petty or significant problem was fixable to some degree.
And Ashton wanted that fresh start.
The next day, after the nurse unhooked the IV in Ashton's arm and let him change back into his old clothes, he felt a new sensation of strength and power. But before he could go and change the world, he wanted one thing and one thing only...you.
"Ash, you ready?" You asked carefully. Before he responded, he scooped you up in the biggest hug he could muster. He smelled the sweet vanilla that lingered on your clothes and skin, and it made him smile.
"I want to get better." Ashton said with a confident look.
You beam and it sends shivers down his spine,
"I'm so glad, I'm going to help you through this all of the way."
Ashton took your hand and started out the door into the world that Ashton once thought hated him, but now the world seemed new. The same cruel outlook that the world had was still there, but Ashton had a new method of solving his problems in mind.
