Song:"The Climb" by Miley Cyrus
Ten months had passed since Sophia's diagnosis. The hospital room was filled with the hum of machines and the quiet rustle of papers. Sophia sat on the examination bed, staring at the floor as the weight of her condition sank in. Her parents were nearby, offering comforting smiles. Her elder sister, Olivia, tried to lift her spirits with a joke, while her elder brother, Eldren, attempted to distract her with stories, but nothing seemed to work. Sophia managed a weak, fake smile as she struggled to keep her emotions in check.
The doctor entered the room, holding a clipboard. “Sophia, I need to inform you about some dietary restrictions,” he began. “You are not allowed to have ice cream, cold drinks, or yogurt.”The mention of yogurt made Sophia’s heart sink. Yogurt was her favorite treat. She screamed in frustration, tears streaming down her face. Her parents rushed to comfort her, explaining that these restrictions were crucial for her health and to prevent further complications. She was also advised against swimming and had to eat only hot food.Eventually, Sophia calmed down, but the disappointment lingered. As they returned home, they were met with a warm surprise. Neighbors and family members gathered, celebrating the end of Sophia’s month-long hospital stay. They assured Sophia’s family of their support and promised to help in any way they could. Although they were not financially strained, the offer of emotional and practical support was heartfelt.
Despite the cheerful welcome, Sophia’s anxiety about her classmates' perceptions lingered. She recalled an incident at school where, after a dispute with a friend, she had fainted from shortness of breath. Her classmates, fearful of her fragility, had distanced themselves. However, they reassured her that their friendship was unwavering, and their concern was simply out of fear for her well-being.
The evening ended with everyone going home, and Sophia’s family settled into their nightly routine. Alone in her room, Sophia cried herself to sleep, praying fervently for strength and reassurance from God. She didn’t want to face her illness or the prospect of dying.Late at night, while sneaking a snack in the kitchen, Sophia overheard her parents arguing for the first time. Her father was upset about having used more leave time than permitted, while her mother was firm about not quitting her job despite the situation. Their argument was a painful reminder of the strain Sophia’s illness was placing on the family.
Feeling overwhelmed and helpless, Sophia ran back to her room, her heart heavy with sadness. She cried herself to sleep, wishing for peace and hoping that things would get better.
