A week had passed since Sophie’s sudden disappearance, and the neighborhood had been thrown into turmoil. The news of her disappearance had spread like wildfire, casting a long shadow over the town. Every passerby seemed to glance at their house with a mixture of sympathy and anxiety. Conversations about Sophie were whispered behind closed doors, and some dared to wonder if she would ever return.

In her home, the silence was deafening. The usual sounds of laughter and life had been replaced with quiet sobs and the echo of footsteps. Sophie’s younger brother, Noah, had withdrawn completely. He refused to speak to anyone and spent most of his time staring out of the window, waiting for his sister’s return. His once bright spirit seemed to have dimmed, and not even the comfort of their parents could bring him solace.

Sophie's parents, on the other hand, were both a mixture of grief and guilt. Her mother, once the heart of the home, was now a shadow of herself. She spent her days wandering through the house, clutching at Sophie’s belongings as if holding onto them would bring her back. Her father tried to remain strong, but the cracks in his façade were beginning to show. The weight of guilt pressed heavily on him—he had missed the signs, and now his family was suffering for it.

Sophie’s elder siblings, Olivia and Eldren, were equally distraught. Olivia, though usually strong and composed, found herself lost in regret. She replayed the memories in her head, wondering if she could have done something differently. Eldren had retreated into his own world, avoiding school and isolating himself from friends. The family, once united, now seemed to be crumbling under the weight of the tragedy.

The house felt hollow. Each corner held memories of Sophie—her laughter, her presence—and the absence was unbearable. Her father wandered the house like a ghost, unable to find solace in anything. He tried to appear strong for his family, but in truth, he was shattered inside. His wife, meanwhile, floated through the house in a daze, her mind spiraling into “what-ifs” and “if-onlys.” Their eldest children, Olivia and Aldrien, avoided each other, both consumed by their own guilt, wishing they had done more, been more attentive.

Scene: Back at the Hospital

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Sophie had become more at ease with her surroundings. She had grown closer to the children in the orphanage and spent her days playing with them. Her interactions with Jacob, Christina, and the other children had slowly begun to heal the cracks in her heart.

One day, when Nurse Krishna came to check on Sophie, she noticed something different—Sophie asked for food. It was the first time since her arrival that she had shown any interest in eating. Krishna, overwhelmed with relief, immediately informed Dr. Grace.

Dr. Grace, entering the room with a soft smile, asked, “What would you like to eat, Sophie?”

Sophie, looking down shyly, responded, “Anything... I’m just really hungry.”

Krishna chuckled, "That's a good sign, Sophie. We’ll get you something to eat right away."

As Sophie ate, her appetite surprising even herself, Dr. Grace watched her with a gentle smile. “You’re doing better, Sophie. You’re stronger than you think.”

Sophie blushed at the compliment but remained silent. She was still overwhelmed by the emotions swirling inside her, but for the first time, she felt a flicker of hope.

Later that evening, Sophie made a decision. After spending time in the hospital, she had come to realize that staying there any longer would only make things harder for both herself and the staff. It was time to go home.

Sophie approached Dr. Grace’s office, her footsteps hesitant but determined. She knocked gently before entering.

Dr. Grace looked up from her desk, surprised to see her. “Sophie? Is everything alright?”
