Two years later, Sophie woke up to the sound of her alarm, as usual, before the rest of her family. She enjoyed the quiet moments alone. After a hot bath, a routine she had grown accustomed to, Sophie stood in front of the mirror, reflecting on how different her life had become. Once a cheerful child, now she felt trapped by her illness and the constraints it imposed.

"I hate school," Sophie muttered to herself, recalling the previous day's events. Her condition had worsened; she had lost all sensation in her nose, and the taunts from her classmates stung more than ever. They called her a freak and a monster, and her lack of interest in schoolwork only fueled their mockery. Her once bright spirit now seemed diminished as she struggled with the physical and emotional toll of her illness.

Descending the stairs quietly, Sophie began preparing breakfast. Cooking and listening to music were her small escapes from the harsh reality of her life. By the time her family woke up, she had already started her day. She greeted her siblings with a forced cheerfulness, masking her true feelings.

At school, the ridicule continued. Classmates stared and laughed, further isolating Sophie. She noticed she had forgotten to comb her thick hair, which made her look unkempt. After a quick fix in the bathroom, she faced her class. Jayden, one of her peers, mocked her as usual. The once-friendly faces now seemed distant, and the promise of friendship had faded over time.

During a particularly grueling class, Sophie was punished for not completing her assignment, which she had forgotten again. Her uniform was also unwashed, and the laughter from her classmates felt like a harsh reminder of her inadequacies. She told herself not to cry, clinging to the belief that a princess does not cry, even though she felt far from a princess.

Lunchtime brought some solace as she ate alone, finding comfort in her own company away from the noisy cafeteria. As the school day ended, Sophie waited anxiously for her father to pick her up. When he was late, she felt a familiar sense of unease. It was past six when her mother finally arrived, looking flustered.

In the car ride home, Sophie sensed the tension. As soon as they walked in, her mother greeted her father with a strained smile.

"I thought I told you to pick Sophie up," her mother said, her voice tight.
The father sighed heavily. "I got caught up at work. How many times do I have to explain that? I didn't miss you, you know.
"Sophie’s heart sank as the argument escalated. Her mother’s eyes were filled with frustration. "You’ve been on leave for two months, more than you were supposed to. And still i was the one picking her up by now you can’t even manage a simple task like picking up Sophie?

"The father’s voice grew defensive. "I’m doing my best. It’s not like I planned to be late. You know how things get at work.

"Sophie felt a pang of guilt, thinking their argument was somehow her fault. She retreated to her room, tears streaming down her face. The feeling of being a burden to her parents was overwhelming, and she couldn’t escape the sorrow she felt.
