Love What You Have

Through shame and sorrow
And uncertain tomorrows.
We've bled and bred to birth our kin,
We were so occupied
Teaching them to survive,
That we forgot to teach them how to live.

We've sailed the seas and conquered new lands
And pillaged and plundered
Enslaved new hands,
We've cried and killed
Broken swords to the hilt,
To build this well of skyscrapers
Hoping it would well up with bliss.

What was meant to well has walled us in.
We distract our minds and embrace our sins,
We fought the beasts to build a home,
Now we turn into beasts at home alone.

Sick and weak we claw and cry,
Stare at unforgiving horizons with burning eyes,
That hold within hot tears of fear
We push through life till our bones are sheared.

In sorrows and thoughts my people are drowned
They room this wasteland round and round.
Lustfully they seek what they never found.
In a place where it can never be found.

For the greatest treasures lie within
To you who swims with a broken fin;
To you who fights with a broken limb;
I say to thee;
That love is free;
It is the right of every beast
That is born beneath the boundless sky
With shining eyes, with vibrant life.

Remember through your sorrows and strife
What dies and rots will come alive.
In endless forms
And bring new norms
And winter heralds the coming spring
So love what you have; the subtle things
For fragile feathers make mighty wings
That soar into the abyss.
