~Ben's POV~

Today will be my next chance to speak with Evie. I was thinking about her all last night, so much so that I had trouble sleeping. I honestly feel like I've dreamt of her before, I just can't remember...

Well, during the school week, we have a royal breakfast every morning at 8 am. Attendance is not mandatory, but almost everyone attends before going to classes. I sit at my usual table with Audrey, Chad, Jane, and Lonnie.

"Good morning, everyone." I say politely.

"Hey, Ben!" Lonnie says cheerfully. "I can't BELIEVE we have VKs at school now. It's honestly shocking...in a good way!" She says excitedly.

"Oh, you CAN'T be serious. I mean, they should just go back where they came from!" Audrey says pretentiously, giggling.

"Those kids are trouble, Ben. I wouldn't trust them with anything. It's just in their DNA." Chad says, and Audrey nods.

"Come on, Chad, give them a chance." I say sympathetically. "Right, Jane?"

"U--Um... actually, t-they're kind of terrifying... especially Maleficent's daughter..." Jane says meekly.

"Thank you, Jane!" Audrey says in an overly sweet way. "They CAN'T be trusted. I mean, they're not even at breakfast! They're probably skipping to do something villainous." She says snootily.

"Yeah, why else would they not be here? They're bad news." Chad says, just as snootily as Audrey.

"Guys, come on, maybe they're just sleeping in! It IS their first full day at Auradon prep." Lonnie says.

I always considered Lonnie to be one of the nicest princesses at school, despite her being friends with Audrey. I was pleased to see her being more welcoming than the others. Audrey on the other hand, was driving me crazy and I needed to get away from her.

"So, Bennybear, I'm thinking for our arrival at Coronation, we get the full red carpet entrance because we're the most important guests, obvi!~ Maybe you could even pop a certain question after you become king~." Audrey says excitedly.

"Um, wow, look at the time... I think I should go check on the other students and see how they're doing. Bye." I narrowly escape before Audrey could start hugging me and making me feel worse about our 'relationship'. I see Doug and wave him over.
"Doug! Doug, how are you?"

"Oh, Ben, hi. I'm good. The VKs seemed interesting yesterday... did anyone catch your eye?" Doug asks curiously.

"Well, they all seem really interesting and cool. I think they're just what Auradon prep needs." I pat Doug on the shoulder, deflecting the question so I don't give up my crush on Evie to anyone.

"Yes, although after my morning questionnaire with the students, it seems that 85% of them are afraid of the VKs or dislike the VKs. It's not looking good..." Doug says in a worried tone.

"Darn, that is pretty bad... I'm sure we can turn it around, though. Thanks for the insight, Doug." I say, smiling slightly and nodding before going to mingle with other students. Then, THEY enter. The four VKs. My eyes instantly go to Evie, wearing a dark blue dress. Compared to the pastels every other girl wears here, she stands out in the best way possible.

"Are we too late for breakfast?" Mal asks.

"No, you're perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, let's eat together." I say happily, finding an empty table for the five of us to sit at. This is perfect - no Audrey or other distractions. I can just talk with the VKs and figure out how they're doing.

"Man, I'm starving. The candy was great and all, but I'm definitely hungry..." Jay says.

"Me too..." Carlos admits.

"How does this work, do we order food? We're new to this. The isle doesn't exactly have breakfast banquets." Mal says. Despite her sarcastic tone, I know she's telling the truth.

"No, there's a set menu. Every morning its different. Don't worry, there's something that everyone will enjoy." I say. Soon after, the maids and butlers bring out the feast for us and all of the other students. I'm used to eating this every day, but the VKs' eyes widen.

"Wait, this is ALL for us?!" Carlos exclaims.

"Of course. Please take whatever you'd like." I say in my princely way.

"Don't mind if I do!" Jay says happily. Him and Carlos pile their plates high with food. Mal also takes a good amount. But Evie just takes a small piece of toast and some fruit.

"Not hungry? The french toast is amazing. Mrs. Potts is the best cook." I say, smiling at Evie.

"O-Oh, that's okay, I'm just a little nervous on the first day of classes..." Evie says shyly, adverting her gaze from me. I watch her pick at her food, and it worries me a bit.

~Evie's POV~.

I spent hours getting ready this morning, picking out the perfect blue dress and boots. I also put on a short leather jacket and my red heart necklace. I really wanted to stand out and show off my fashion.

But... my mother always told me that a princess should NEVER eat a lot in front of others, or in general. Even after Audrey told me I'm not a princess, it's still a rule that I abide by.

"So... are you excited for any classes in particular?" The Prince asks, wanting to continue the conversation for some reason. I don't mind in the slightest... he's REALLY cute!

"Well, I'm looking forward to home economics. I heard it offers both cooking and sewing, my favorite hobbies! Other than cleaning, of course." I say, blushing and giggling softly.

"You'll love that course. It seems perfectly suited to your interests. But, um, can I ask you something?" Ben says quietly.

"Yes, go ahead...?" I say nervously.

"Is there any chance that we met prior to this?" He says. I'm honestly dumbfounded.

"W-Well, I've been on the island for 16 years, sir... I saw you on TV a couple of times, although the cable was terrible." I say, giggling.

"R-Right, right, of course. How stupid of me, I knew that. It's just... I feel like we've met before. Maybe in a past life?" He says sheepishly, blushing. Now it's my turn to blush. Did the PRINCE really just say that to me?!

"Oh wow, you really think so? I hope our past selves were close..." I say, instantly regretting my words. "Um, please just ignore that..." I say quietly, blushing more.

"E?" Mal raises an eyebrow, watching me and Ben for the entirety of our conversation. Being my best friend, she always keeps a watching eye on me.

"I think I should be going... I'm sorry." I say apologetically to the Prince, excusing myself before leaving. I know I caused a slight commotion, but I was too embarrassed to stay.

~Mal's POV~

"Oh no, do you think she's okay?" Ben says nervously, watching as Evie swiftly exited the dining hall.

"Of course she's okay. Evie is probably going to fix her hair and makeup or something. She's very focused on her looks." I say, rolling my eyes. Deep down, I could tell that something was up with her, and I was going to find it out. Especially because I saw some of the students whispering. Evie gets anxious about how people perceive her, and I don't need ANYONE spreading nasty rumors.

"I can see that. But she looked perfect to me. I'm just worried that she'll be hungry during the day..." Ben says.

"It's my job to worry about Evie, not yours. Just... stop putting her on the spot with so many questions. She gets nervous easily." I admit, completely telling the truth. I take my bag and exit the dining hall, following after Evie.

Just what could be going on between those two...?
