Hi ^^ Here's the second chapter of HL - The Lost Dragon! I'm releasing it earlier than planned :)
It's a short chapter but I hope you enjoy it! Happy reading!_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Professor Fig joined Helena and Nolan in the company of Weasley.
"Good evening Fig, well this is a spectacular arrival, I hope you can explain all this to me in detail.
- Good evening Matilda ... Hmm... yes, of course, but perhaps a little later. I think the children need a good night's sleep after what they've been through ... Rest would be a priority," replied the old man with a good excuse for not explaining the real reasons. He needed to gain time to think about an excuse.
"Yes, that goes without saying...".
The Assistant Headmistress was not fooled by the fact that her colleague was hiding certain things from her, but she had to admit that he was not wrong in saying that the two new arrivals had experienced a rather eventful and unusual start to the new school year. The dragon attack and George Osric's death must have been trying, even if Nolan and his sister didn't show their stricken faces so as not to worry the world. They were at the center of enough conversations, and he didn't want to add to them. The lady pivoted on her heels towards Helena with a friendly smile.
"Come along my dear, I'll escort you to your common room. And as for you Mr Drake, Professor Fig can show you to yours in the Slytherin. On that note, gentlemen, I wish you a good evening.
- Thank you Professor, and good evening to you too."
Nolan gently thanked the deputy who left in the direction of the Slytherin tower.
"Good evening Professor Fig," greeted Helena before following Weasley.
Nolan winked at his sister before joining Professor Fig who led him to the Slytherins, after a brief tour of the common room, the old man towards the dormitory section then knocked on a door before entering.
"Good evening, gentlemen, I'm sorry to disturb you but from today you will be welcoming the new student, Nolan Drake. I hope you don't mind?"
Fig let Nolan in who greeted his two roommates.
"No, Professor, I'll be fine and it would be a shame for this bed to gather dust. A new housemate should liven the room up a bit. Right, Ominis?
"Yes...' sighed Ominis softly, sounding slightly annoyed. He who didn't want to share his dormitory with other mates with the exception of his best friend Sebastian. But Director Black had given him an exemption. How on earth could this new student get the headmaster to waive his request?
"Perfect. I won't keep you any longer, Nolan, we'll see you tomorrow for your things and other details. After this hard day, get some rest quickly.
- Thank you Professor, don't worry about me, I'll be fine. "
The young Drake smiled to reassure Fig before turning to his new room-mates. As soon as the professor left, Sebastian walked over to him without further ado to approach him.
"Welcome to the Slytherins, you've come to the best house there is. Sebastian Sallow and the grumpy one is Ominis Gaunt, my best friend. Don't blame him if he's a grump because he thought we were going to have the dormitory to ourselves. But apparently that's not going to be the case this year.
- Nolan Drake... well... you already know, nice to meet you. So I'm pretty lucky to have found the right place," the new Slytherin said shyly, scratching his cheek softly before adding.
"Mmmh also... I'm sorry, I didn't want to impose my presence in your dormitory but if you want, tomorrow I can ask to change...
- No! It's fine, you can stay..." cut in Ominis with a sigh, determined to let the new student into their room but in truth he was intrigued by the Drake family, so many rumours were circulating about them, it was difficult for the blond not to try and find out why his family, the prestigious house of Gaunt, was so afraid of this dragon family. It was true that dragons were a good argument to frighten any wizard, but the blond suspected other reasons.
"As long as you don't encroach on my space and you don't snore like a troll, you can stay..." breathed the young Gaunt.
"Okay, I'll be careful. Thanks," Nolan smiled, glad to be accepted by his roommates before placing his cloak on his bed.
"Don't you have any stuff?" Sebastian asked, questioned at not seeing the new housemate's belongings.
"Well, I think some of it is in a dragon's stomach ... and the other lost on the way to Hogwarts.
-Oh ... yes, right, that's not practical. Sorry, but are you and your sister going to be all right? Mmmh if you want I can lend you a pair of pyjamas until you get back to business.
- Yes, we'll be fine, thanks for worrying about Helena and me," nodded Nolan, a little embarrassed at having to borrow things on his first day. But he was also worried about the dragon that had attacked them. A lot of questions were running through his head, but he was more than a little tired enough to have a clear head.
"Thank you, I'd like to borrow a pair of pyjamas for tonight but I'll have to buy some new things quickly if I want to make it through this year.
I'll give it back to you once I've cleaned it.
- Clean it?" surprised Sebastian.
"Yes, it's the least I can do to wash it after I've worn it.
- You can just ask a house elf to take care of that ...
- Ah! Yes, that's right ... sorry, old habit hahaha." The raven-haired boy blushed slightly, a little ashamed. Nolan had forgotten that he was no longer in a Muggle school and that he had to relearn to live with the habits and codes of magical society.
"How were you going to wash it?" Ominis asked, surprised by Nolan's behaviour. He could hardly believe that he was part of the prestigious Dragon family.
"Well, quite simply with water and washing-powder. For what reason?" The young Drake replied naturally, as if this was normal for everyone.
"Wait, are you really from the very old wizarding family, the ones with the Dragons? No offence intended, but you don't seem to have had much experience of the magical world," Sebastian questioned, a little confused after giving him a pair of pyjamas. On closer inspection, the dark-haired boy noticed that Nolan wasn't frail-looking but seemed much more robust and was slightly taller than him. "Sorry, he's going to be a bit small for you.
- ...Yes... This is my family... How can I explain this..."
The new Slytherin was trying to explain himself well however he pulled a small face, due to tiredness but he wanted to hold on.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you, but if you don't want to talk about it, I'll understand...
- No, no... it's fine, don't worry," he shook his head.
"I understand that you're all curious about my family. It's best to explain a few things if I want to stay with you. Thanks again for the pajamas, I think I'll be fine even if it's just for one night."
Nolan thought and then took a small breath before explaining himself.
"There are several reasons why we're in the shadows but I won't know them all, I'll only know more when I've finished my studies but I know that one of them is that we're close to the muggles."
Nolan seemed a little sad that a good number of wizards took a dim view of muggles.
"The family thought it would be a good idea for Helena and I to discover the Muggle world first, before the magical world. As a result, we had our first 'Muggle' education, taking various courses and travelling the world." He paused for a moment before resuming his explanation.
"Of course we have a few notions about the magical world, but not as much as a normal young wizard. Our parents didn't want us to be burdened with magical pressures or family burdens until we were 15 or 16.
They wanted us to enjoy the simple things and I have to say that my sister and I don't regret that decision."
Nolan smiled as he thought back to those fond memories of travelling through the Muggle world and meeting so many people. It had the effect of a gentle comforting warmth before he raised his head and finished his explanation.
"Then it was decided that it was time to return to the magical world, which is why we are only now returning to Hogwarts and are novices in the magical world despite the great wizard name we bear."
Nolan restrained himself for the moment not to mention dragons, it was the only magical subject he was knowledgeable about but it was better to tell them another day.
"Still, last summer we tried to catch up by learning as much as we could but it wasn't easy... and we still have a lot to learn about the magical world," the boy finished.
"I see... I understand a little better why," exclaimed Sebastian, still as intrigued as ever, he had many more questions but he told himself to wait and ask them little by little. It's not as if he was going to fly off the handle.
"But why haven't your predecessors joined Hogwarts or other schools like you in Year 5 for several decades?" Asked Ominis, whose question was making his brain itch.
"Mmmmh, it's true that we could have learned magic at home but the Do...' He was silent for a brief moment, then resumed. "... a diviner in the family predicted that the school needed us and vice versa ... That we would find certain answers here.
- Answers? To what?" questioned the blond Slytherin.
More mystery. With each answer, new questions formed in his head. The Drake family was fascinating, good for intriguing anyone.
"I'm sorry it's rather personal and I can't talk about it for my sister or I'll risk her fury.
- Oh, yes, your sister ... I can't imagine your pretty sister being angry," Sebastian said with a dreamy smile.
"Sebastian..." Ominis tried to correct him.
"Hahaha. It's nothing Ominis, I've got used to my sister attracting a lot of attention lately. You'd have to be blind not to see her beauty...
- Well, you can count on me for that ...
- What do you mean?" asked Nolan, questioned by his blond classmate's answer.
"I was born blind, so your sister needn't worry too much about me.
- Sorry ... I hadn't noticed that ... sorry ... but why don't you use magic to see? The spell is so difficult.
- There's no magic for that ... don't worry, I use my wand to find my way around the castle." Ominis was sceptical about Nolan's remark and sensed a hidden message in his voice. What did he mean by the spell being so difficult? It would be better to know him before continuing this conversation.
"Sebastian, if you want some good advice, avoid flirting with her openly and complimenting her too much on her looks. Make friends and get to know her first, if you want to have any chance with her. Otherwise you'll end up like all the other suitors, in the box of eternal ignorance hahaha." laughed softly the young man thinking of the many rakes that his sister had been able to give these last 2 years.
"Well ... well that's noted, thank you for the advice. But I hope you don't mind that ....
- Anyway, it's getting late, we should get some sleep," cut in Ominis to avoid getting into another endless conversation. Nolan and Helena weren't going to run away. They would have plenty of other opportunities to discuss this.
"Yes, it's true, I'm exhausted. Well, good night to you both. "
Nolan went off to change before sleeping like a log in bed. It only took a few seconds for the new Slytherin to fall into the arms of Morpheus with strange dreams about old magic.
This was one of the reasons why the Doyen of the family had allowed him and Helena to go to Hogwarts?
