The morning light filtered gently through the curtains as I slowly woke up, stretching my arms and blinking away the remnants of sleep. It took me a moment to realize that Sarang was nestled comfortably beside me, her small frame snuggled under the blankets. I must have been so exhausted last night that I hadn't noticed her crawling into bed with me.
Sarang stirred, her little face breaking into a sleepy smile as she opened her eyes. "Mommy," she mumbled, her voice still heavy with sleep.
"Good morning, Love," I said softly, leaning in to kiss her forehead. I brushed a lock of hair from her face and smiled as she wiggled closer to me. "Did David bring you here this morning?"
Sarang simply giggled and hugged me tighter. I smiled, knowing that David must have brought her in the early morning hours when he had to help Dad at the flower shop. It wasn't unusual for him to be so involved, and I appreciated the help.
I carefully lifted Sarang from the bed and carried her downstairs. Her morning kisses were a delightful way to start the day, and I savored the sweetness of her affection. We made our way to the kitchen, where I quickly prepared breakfast for both of us. Sarang chattered away about the things she wanted to do today, her excitement evident in her animated gestures.
After breakfast, I made sure Sarang was dressed and ready for the day. She was thrilled about going to the flower shop, where she could see her Lolo and David in action. With her small backpack in tow, we headed out to the car.
The drive to the flower shop was smooth. Sarang hummed softly to herself in the backseat, her cheerful presence making the trip more pleasant. When we arrived at the flower shop, I could see that Dad and David were already hard at work. The shop was buzzing with activity, filled with the vibrant colors and sweet scents of fresh flowers.
As we entered, Dad looked up from a large arrangement he was working on. His face lit up when he saw Sarang. "Ah, Good morning , Anak! And hello, Sarang!" he greeted us warmly. He was already drenched in sweat from the busy morning, his shirt sticking to his back as he worked.
"Good morning, Dad," I said, giving him a quick hug. "I brought Sarang here because I need to get to work, and I know you're busy. If David can't watch her today, that's okay."
Dad nodded understandingly. "Oo, talagang maraming trabaho ngayon. David is really swamped with the arrangements, and we have a huge order for an event tonight. We're a bit short-staffed."
David, who was organizing vases and prepping flowers, glanced up and gave us a wave. "Ate! Hi, Sarang! Sorry, I've got my hands full today."
"It's alright," I said with a smile. "I'll just drop Sarang off with Mari, and then I'll head to work."
Dad gave me a supportive nod. "Thank you for understanding."
I hugged Dad tightly before heading out. He looked up at me with wide eyes, clearly sorry about not spending time with Sarang today.
I gave Dad and David a final wave before stepping back into the car. The drive to Mari's house was brief but filled with the usual anticipation of arriving at her elegant mansion.
Mari's home was nothing short of grand. The mansion stood tall and imposing, its façade a testament to wealth and sophistication. The manicured lawns and pristine garden set the tone for the opulence inside. I rang the doorbell, and the automatic door lock clicked open with a soft hum.
We were greeted by the butler, who offered us a polite bow. "Good morning, Ms. Katarina. How may I assist you today?"
I smiled and shook my head. "Thank you, but we're just dropping by. I'm actually running late for work, so I'll have to decline any refreshments."
