Francis' POV
The weight of everything that had been going on day by day was getting heavier. I knew I couldn't just sit back and let it all pass. The image of those children, especially that young boy with the bruises, was etched into my mind. The warm hug Katarina had given me the night before had been a brief escape, but it also cemented my decision. I had to act. I had to do something about the children in Hugo's operation.
Nathan and Daniel were both visibly concerned about my plan. They understood how dangerous it was to go into Hugo's territory, and their apprehension was clear. They tried to come up with alternatives, but my mind was made up. I couldn't shake the image of that boy's eyes, the look of pain and fear that had sparked a rage within me. I was determined to take action.
Nathan's voice was laced with worry. "Francis, you know this is dangerous. Going into Hugo's territory, especially with the police involved, is risky. What if they come after you?"
Daniel added his voice of concern. "And what if Hugo's team retaliates? We don't know how they'll react."
"I'm aware of the risks," I said, my voice firm. "But I can't ignore what I saw. I have to do something, and if that means involving the police, then so be it. I've made up my mind."
I picked up the burner phone and dialed the police station where John worked. I had to keep my identity hidden, so I used a disguised voice when the call was answered.
"I have important information regarding illegal activities," I said. "I need to speak with Officer John. It's about the children who were recently reported missing."
The call was transferred to John. His voice was cautious but intrigued. "This is John. Who am I speaking with?"
I kept my tone neutral and untraceable. "I'm someone who knows the location of the missing children. I can give you the address where they're being kept. But I only want to speak with you directly."
John was wary but agreed to listen. "Alright, I'm listening. What's the address?"
I provided him with the address I had obtained from Hugo's facility. "This is where you'll find them. I'm giving you this information because I need your help to rescue them. Remember, this conversation is off the record. My identity remains confidential."
John tried to ask for more details, but I kept my responses brief and focused on the essentials. After ending the call, I felt a mix of relief and anxiety. I knew this was just the beginning, and the real challenges were yet to come.
Nathan and Daniel exchanged glances, their faces reflecting their concern. "So, what now?" Daniel asked.
"We wait and see how the police handle it," I said, my voice steady despite the storm of emotions churning inside me.
The pressure was relentless. Each day dragged on, heavy with the burden of what I needed to do. Katarina's unexpected embrace from last night had brought clarity, and now I knew I had to act. The children's fate weighed on my mind. I had to rescue them from Hugo's clutches.
Nathan and Daniel's worry was palpable. They had every right to be concerned. Nathan's fingers trembled slightly as he adjusted his gun, while Daniel's face was shadowed with apprehension.
"I'm going through with this," I said firmly. "If you don't want to come, stay here. But I'm not backing down."
Despite their fears, Nathan and Daniel refused to leave me alone. They trusted me, even if it meant facing extreme danger. I appreciated their loyalty.
I moved quickly, retrieving an extra gun and ample ammunition from the storage. Each movement was deliberate, driven by purpose. Once I was armed and ready, we headed to the car. It was an old model, hidden in the basement, one that could be easily abandoned if things went wrong.
