(I'll look after you part two)

(Logan Howlett x reader)

You glance over to Scott’s bedroom door, seeing Logan leaning against it silently. "It's not fair..." you whisper out, your lower lip wobbling. Not having to expand on what you meant knowing he understood.

Logan glances over at you, and there’s a silent understanding in his eyes as soon as you speak. He understands exactly what you are saying, without you even having to expand on it.

He stays leaned up against the doorframe, his arms crossed against his chest. He keeps staring at the pair of you for a few minutes, and then he finally mutters back, “No. Ain’t fair at all.”

"I don't wanna watch my baby get old and die..." you sniffle and stare at Logan, having known the feral man most of both of your immortal lives.

Logan stands there, silently watching your reaction to the thought of watching Scott grow old and die, and dying while you remained forever young. He’s been around death for decades, and has watched several people grow old and die before him over the past century. But it’s different with Scott, who is basically the son you never had.

“I know.” Logan says in a solemn tone, standing still in the doorframe.

He keeps staring at you for a few more moments, and he seems almost hesitant to speak again. But after a moment, he forces out a gruff, “You think I haven’t thought about that before?”

You stare down at Scott with soft eyes, "everyone around us is going to die until we're the only ones left, again."

You continue to stare at Scott, your gaze soft and full of melancholy, and Logan lets out a weary sigh as you speak. He’s been having thoughts like this for a long, long time, and he knows that they’re just a painful reality that he’ll have to accept.

He lets you in a weary mutter, “The joys of being immortal, sweetheart… everyone you care about will die.”

"Will.. will you stay.. with me.. after everyone's...?" You trail off, swallowing hard being unable to finish your question.

Logan’s gaze seems to soften as you trail off, but it’s obvious that he knows exactly what you’re trying to say. He doesn’t even hesitate to give you an answer.

“Yes.” He mutters in a quiet, husky tone, just loud enough for you to hear. “Yeah. Ain’t gonna leave ya.”

He keeps staring at you, and you can tell that he’s being completely genuine. There’s a fierce, protective determination in his gaze as he mutters, “Wouldn’t do that to ya, darlin’. Won’t leave ya alone when everyone else is gone. That’s a promise, sweetpea.”

"You're a good man, Logan." You glance at him before turning your gaze back to Scott.

There’s a flicker of surprise on Logan’s face as you compliment him, but it’s gone in an instant, replaced by a gruff snort. He mutters under his breath as he pushes off the doorway, taking a few steps until he’s standing right next to you.

He glances down at Scott as well, before replying, “Nah. I’m nowhere near a good man. Not even close.”

"Well, you're a good man to me." You smile up at him, taking his hand in yours, kissing his knuckles softly.

Logan’s face blushes red with color as soon as you take his hand in yours, his expression momentarily stunned. He glances down at you as soon as you kiss his knuckles as well, his rough, calloused fingers twitching as he stares down at you with wide eyes.

It takes a few moments for him to recover from the surprise, and he grumbles in a low mutter, “Yer too kind to me, doll.”

You chuckle quietly before glancing down at the sleeping man, "I think Scott'll be pretty mad if he wakes up to find you in his room, promising to spend the rest of your eternal life with me." You comment with a small grin, squeezing the hand in yours.

There’s a snort of laughter from Logan, and he grins with a hint of cocky mischief as he glances down at Scott, and then back down at you.

He leans down a bit more, close enough that you can feel his breath brush against your ear. He gives a low, mischievous mutter, “… I think that’d be worth it to see the look on his face, don’t you, darlin’? I bet he’d throw something at my head.”

"As much as Scott tries to deny it, he acts like a child that's overprotective of their parent." You snicker, glancing at Logan.

Logan lets out a low, hearty chuckle as you speak, imagining the sight of Scott throwing a temper tantrum at the sight of you and Logan together. It’s a funny idea.

He keeps grinning as he mutters, “Oh he definitely does. It’s adorable. He thinks he’s intimidating when he’s only a step away from throwin’ things around like a little kid havin’ a temper tantrum.”

"Be nice. He's still my son." You scold softly, but there's really no heat behind your words.

Logan snickers again, but he gives a nod in understanding as you scold him. He knows you’re just playing, and he grins as he mutters jokingly back with a smirk, “I know, darlin’.”

He glances down at Scott before continuing in a quieter tone, “He’ll always be your boy, no matter how old he gets. You’ve done a good job raisin’ that one. He’s a real good kid.”

Logan’s voice softens even more as he speaks, and a hint of melancholy appears in his eyes. He’s been able to see first hand just how hard you try to nurture and care for Scott, and just how hard Scott tries to do right by you and the rest of the team.

He gives your hand a gentle squeeze as he mutters quietly, “He’s a special kid, darlin’. You should be proud to have raised him.”

"I am," you whisper, leaning your head against the clawed man's hip, "so very proud."
