(Frank Castle/Punisher x female!Teen!OC)
Frank is not good with kids; he never has been and doesn’t think he ever will be. That’s not to say he doesn’t love his kids, he does! He just can’t relate to them, it’s like they spoke different languages. That and Frank wasn’t the greatest with words of affirmation or any love language for that matter.
Taking Ju-li under his wing was the best and worst thing that had ever happened to Frank. He remembers the scared little kid who followed him around like a lost puppy, looking up at him with wide eyes filled with adoration. She wanted to be his “sidekick” and Frank claimed he worked alone, but somehow, some way, Ju-li had wormed her way into his heart and his home. Maybe she was just filling a hole in his heart, but Frank loved her like she were his kid.
However, Frank never had to deal with teenagers. He’d lost that chance when his family was killed. He mourned it, of course, but then Ju-li’s teen angst came and Frank thought he’d lose his mind. Ju-li’s temper matched Frank’s and every fight was like a ticking time bomb.
It was over trivial things, Ju-li staying out late, not telling Frank where she’d be or Ju-li complaining Frank was overbearing. It was like a switch had flipped and Frank—as much as he hated to admit it—missed his little kid.
It was times like these when Frank wished he was “normal”, he wanted to tell Ju-li how proud he was of her, how she was quite literally the light of his life, how grateful he was for her, but the words just wouldn’t leave his lips.
“Ju-li!” Frank grumbles, running a hand through his hair, the tension in the room was thick as he and Ju-li toed the line of another fight, “all I asked was for you to tell me where you’re going,”
I can't have some privacy?!" She snapped, glaring at him. Lip split and a black eye.
Frank sighed, his gaze darkened as he caught sight of her split lip and black eye. Despite his usual cool demeanor, the sight of Ju-li bruised and battered filled him with a mix of anger and worry.
"Privacy? Is that what you call sneaking out without telling me?" His tone was cold, betraying the worry he felt bubbling beneath the surface. "You're lucky I'm not grounding you for a month."
"Grounding me? From what? I don't have friends! I do online school here! What could you possibly take from me?" Ju-li hisses, wincing as she puts pressure on her left foot.
Frank's jaw clenched at her words. He knew she was right, and that only fueled his frustration. He wanted to shake some sense into her, to make her realize the danger she'd put herself in.
"You think I don't know that?" he retorted, his voice rising with anger. "You've got nothing else besides me and you take that for granted. And look at yourself! Where the hell were you tonight to get banged up like this?"
He gestured towards her injuries, his eyes full of worry.
"Just leave me alone, Frank!" She snaps, slaming the door to her room.
Frank's hands curled into fists. His jaw clenched as he heard the door slam, and he had to resist the urge to burst into her room. He took a deep breath, his whole body tense with restraint.
"Dammit, Kid," he muttered under his breath. "Can't you understand that I'm just trying to protect you?"
He paced back and forth outside her door, his mind racing with worry and frustration. He hated this. He hated how stubborn she could be, how she always pushed him away when all he was trying to do was keep her safe.
As he paces in front of the door, he can hear her window opening and... the soft mew of a cat?
Frank paused in his pacing, his ears pricked at the sound of the window opening and the unexpected sound of a cat meowing. He frowned, confusion and curiosity mingling in his mind.
