TEMPEST

“D, wake up.”

Someone keeps calling out my name. I don’t know who it is, but they sound concerned.

“D.”

I don’t know why they are. All I know is that I feel comfortable. Soooo comfortable that I don’t want to respond or wake up.

"D!” Someone smacks the shit out of me, forcing me to wake up.

I rub my eyes while yawning.

“You’re awake!”

I blink a couple of times before realizing it’s Jupiter. “Why’d-” I yawn. “Why did you hit me?”

“To wake you up.” He responds, sounding like I should know why he would do that.

I roll my eyes. Just as I’m about to speak, my thigh starts to ache. I gulped in pain. “What happened?”

“When you dropped the gun, you sort of... Shot yourself.”

I groan. Fuuuck.

“But don’t worry, Rin and Rune got the bullet out and stitched you up.”

“Why would they do that?” From what I can remember, I attacked their goons and went off on them. Why would they offer any kind of help- “What do they want in exchange?”

Jupiter shakes his head. “Nothing.”

Yeah, right. No one, especially not drug lords, helps people without wanting something in return. That reminds me. “How’s your arm?”

“It’s fine. I think you accidentally shooting yourself made them have a change of heart. They decided to break my pink instead of my arm.” He shows me the tiny cast on his finger. “Thanks for getting them to break a limb instead of killing me.”

I shrug. “Don’t worry about it.” I cough. “Do you have any drugs?”

“Nope.” He chuckles. “Where do you think we are?”

“A hospital?”

He shakes his head. “We’re in Rin’s lab.”

I furrow my eyebrows. I was going to ask him how many days I was out, but I think I’ve heard more than enough. I take the IV out of my arm.

“Woah. Woah. Woah!” Jupiter runs over to my side. “What are you doing?!”

“They want me to be in debt to them. They want me to owe them something. I’m not going to let that happen.” Drug lords don’t just do nice things for free. There is always a price to pay.

“I’m pretty sure they don’t want anything from a junkie.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “Why not? Junkies are one of the easiest drug mules drug lords can get ahold of.” I’m sure of that.

“D-”

“Healed or not, I’m leaving before they come back,” I say as I push him out of the way and get off the bed.

“Before who comes back?” Rune and Rin walk in.

I roll my eyes and ignore them.

“Where are you going?” Rin asked me. I go for the door only to get pulled back. “You aren’t fully healed yet.”

I abrasively jerk out of his grasp. “I don’t care.”

“You should.” He tells me. Two buff goons enter. “That’s her.”
