— MAGIC IS A BEAUTIFUL THING, BUT SOMETIMES IT IS TOO DEEPLY HATED TO EXIST AMONGST THE OTHER LIVING THINGS OF THE WORLD. Things that are different are stamped out. A nine year old girl with strange abilities is alienated, called a monster, ripped away from her home and her family, put through years of testing, weaponized, imprisoned because others fear her. She's only fifteen when she finally forces their hand, bringing it all to a stop. She flees. She knows she won't get far, but for the first time in years, out under blue skies without electroshock bracelets latched around each wrist, she allows herself to hope. Just the tiniest bit. Ten steps out the door though. That's when the truck's horn blares. He can't stop in time. A gun fires and suddenly the tail end of the truck flies up. She watches it come down towards her, blood frozen in her veins. This is it. After everything, this is how it ends. It slams into her, and from the searing burning she can feel in every atom of her body she's sure every single one of her bones must be broken.

— SHE KEEPS HER EYES SQEEZED SHUT EVEN AS THE PAIN DULLS TO A TINGLING ALL THROUGH HER BODY. And then suddenly... there's something else. Something warm, like summer's breath fanning across her face. Something damp presses gently into her arm, and she finally peels her eyes open to find... she gasps. It looks like a bear, though it must be at least three times the size of any bear she's ever seen, if not larger. It's nuzzling her softly, as if trying to wake her up. She sits up slowly in what appears to be a small forest glade, and it turns to look her in the eye. Though its exterior appears to be a brutish beast, its eyes are so gentle, encouraging her to swallow her nerves and reach for its snout. It snuffles and grunts lightly as her fingers make contact, and a nervous giggle works its way up out of her chest. She rises to her feet, observing her surroundings while keeping half an eye on the bear. But it doesn't seem to have any intention of hurting her. She wanders just slightly, but after a moment, it comes back to her side, nudging her hand. It starts away from her, then turns back, as if beckoning her to follow. Tentatively she returns to its side, knotting her fingers gently in the fur of its side. Together, they make their way through the trees until they come to the forest's edge. There, a splendid clearing awaits them. Some ponies gallop loose through the tall grass, gardens are filled with flowers and fruits lay in rows and in the centre of it all stands a sturdy home of stone and dark wood. She blinks at the bear as it moves towards the house once again. Where the hell am I?
A/N:
I don't know if y'all can tell, but I'm obsessed with the modern girl ending up in a fantasy world storyline lol. Extra points: when she knows this new world really well while maintaining her modern world quirks and chaos and her love interest is serious and dark and mysterious and can't for the life of him figure her out 😍😍😍XO
