The remaining campers were gathered around the campfire, the mood sombre and subdued.
In front of them were 6 shrouds, each decorated meticulously.
1 of them was for a child of Aphrodite, 2 for children of Ares, 1 was for a child of Hermes and the remaining two were for Artemis' hunters.
The Aphrodite shroud was a soft lilac colour, with pale pink and white embroidery decorating the border. It was made of silk, and glowed with a slightly warming aura, radiating calmness.
The Ares shrouds were blood red and made of satin, with embroidered swords and shields, sewn on skull-and-crossbones pins and various curse words. All in all, a very accurate description of the God himself and his offspring.
The Hermes shroud was a dark tan colour, and decorated with a Caduceus in the middle, George and Martha wrapped around the it, with tiny speech bubbles next to their mouths. George was saying "Rats?" And Martha was saying "George, hush!"
It had brought some smiles into the otherwise depressing night.
The Artemis shrouds were a sheen of silver silk, a crescent moon in the centre with the form of a Hunter standing in-between the two ends, as of acting as a bow-string. It emitted a soft, silvery aura, casting cold light on the camper's faces.
"Tonight, we say goodbye to 6 brave demigods." Chiron cleared his throat, pausing for a moment to wipe his eyes before carrying on. "May Piper McLean, Ellis Wakefield, Mark Raydel (A/N: made up last name BC it doesn't say his actual surname in the books, and I know Naomi and Phoebe died already, pretend they didn't-), Julia Feingold, Naomi and Phoebe."
Annabeth was hysterical.
Her hair was tangled and unkempt, eyes red and puffy with tears for her deceased girlfriend. Her camp shirt was crumpled and still smudged with blood and monster-dust, and she was wearing one of Piper's beanies.
Even Clarisse was subdued.
Staring at the shrouds of her dead siblings, she was in deep thought. How she could've saved them if she had been there, or how she could have prevented their deaths by being stronger.
Chris nudged her, and she looked up, eyes weary.
He offered her a small smile.
She gave a weak one back.
Connor and Travis had blank expressions, the inner turmoil they had going on inside not matching their faces.
They would miss Julia a lot.
She had been like their sister.
Bratty, annoying little sister, sure.
But still the girl who they loved and spent time with.
Even Artemis looked weighed down by the situation, sitting dejectedly next to Annabeth and staring into the flames of the campfire, lost in her mind.
Two of her Hunters were dead.
Gone.
She watched with a hollow gaze as the shrouds were lowered onto the fire and burned, clouds of smoke rolling into the clear night sky.
The stars were sparkling, winking down at the demigods, as if Nyx was sending a message only she could understand.
The moon was dim and dull, reflecting its goddess's mood.
Her brother had said he would try to be there for the ceremony, and he had for the beginning, until Percy flatlined and had to be revived for the 4th time that day.
No one was mad at him for it.
They all understood the fear of losing someone you loved.
