CHAPTER EIGHTThe two teenagers rode along in the blue jeep in utter silence. Stiles was still a bit angry that Charlotte had been that stupid, and the girl sat in his passenger seat was too stubborn to say a word of apology to him.
Stiles let out a long sigh "I didn't mean to get so upset, but that was stupid Charlotte" He gently scolded. He turned to look at her after her lack of response, worried he'd upset her, but she was just staring out of the window, ignoring him. "You're going to have to say something eventually Charlotte."
The girl sighed and turned her body so it was facing forward, but still not towards him. If she were being honest, she wasn't talking because she knew he was right, that she was being reckless and could've gotten seriously hurt.
But usually when she was reckless, she was met with scolding, total anger, not out of love but out of resentment
As a kid she was a bit of a "wild child" as her aunt would say, but her mother just said it was plain stupidity. She loved her parents, of course she did, but it was rare she liked them.
Charlotte sighed and peered at the boy out of the corner of her eye, knowing what she had to say. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to prove I could do it" She whispered, loud enough for Stiles to hear. The boy chuckled and glanced at her quickly before averting his eyes back to the road. "Char, you were being stupid, but I was more worried that you weren't going to walk back out of that bank" He admitted.
The girl bitterly chuckled "I know, I'm sort of surprised I was unscathed"
Stiles shook his head. "You're an idiot." He laughed, Charlotte finally turning to look at him. "I know."
"And a hell of a lot more brave then most of us" He added casually, making Charlie let out a breathy laugh. She watched his face as he drove, eyes trained on the road. This is the first time she had ever really looked at his face properly. Stiles had moles scattered along his face, a few running up his jaw, she had noticed them the first time she had ever met him, but never noticed how many he had.
After a few seconds, the car grew silent and Charlotte averted her gave back to the road ahead. As they moved, Stiles phone began to rang, him quickly fishing it out of his pocket and answering it. "Hello?"
The car was quiet, only the humming of the engine and a muffled voice. "What!?" He exclaimed, stopping the car suddenly and beginning to turn around. "Okay just stay where you are, I'm on my way."
Stiles hung up and threw his phone back in his pocket, suddenly driving alarmingly fast. "What happened? What is it?" Charlotte asked, clearly concerned on his eagerness to get where he was going.
"Lydia found a body."
-✵-
Stiles and Charlotte rush out of the car quickly running to the main gate of the public pool. "Lydia?" Stiles yelled out, running to the strawberry blonde. "Are you okay?"
Lydia nods her head as Stiles holds her steady. "I'm okay. That over there? Not okay." She responds, her voice trembling. Charlotte rubs Lydia's back comfortingly, the girl clinging to herself.
"Yeah alright, I'm gonna call my dad" Stiles adds, pulling out his phone. "I already called 911" Lydia voices, stopping Stiles. "You called the police before you called me?"
