CHAPTER ELEVENCharlotte sighs gently as she rest the side of her head on the bus seat, her legs out in front of her. She took the spot in the back across from Stiles and Scott, a choice she's starting to regret given that all they've been doing is PSAT prep.
"Okay next word, Incongruous." Stiles continues, quizzing Scott on different vocabulary. "Um... Can you use it in a sentence?" Scott asks.
"Yes, Yes I can. It's completely Incongruous that we're sitting on a bus right now, on our way to some stupid cross country meet after what just happened, Incongruous." He rambles, making Charlotte shake her head.
"Out of place, ridiculous, absurd."
"Perfect." Stiles smiles, holding up is thumb. "Okay next word! Darach.. Darach, It's a.. noun." Stiles says, looking hesitantly at Scott, who just stared back at him silently.
"So subtle Stiles." Charlotte voices sarcastically, clearly enjoying their exchange. "We have to talk about it sometime okay? And we're gonna be stuck in this thing for like five hours so why not?" Stiles argues. "And you? Shut up." He says, turning his head over his shoulder to address Charlie, the girl laughing.
Scott continues to ignore Stiles, the boy clearing his throat in annoyance. "Next word–Intransigent."
"Stubborn, Obstinate." The bus rattles over a speed bump, Scott doubling over and hissing in pain, Stiles and Charlotte averting their attention to him. "You okay Scotty?" Charlotte asks, sitting up in her seat to look at him.
Scott winces and lets out a small groan. "We shouldn't have come." Stiles states. "I knew it, we shouldn't have come!"
"We had to." Scott chimes through winces. "There's safety in numbers."
"Yeah well, there's also death in numbers, okay?" Stiles argues. "It's called a massacre.. Or bloodbath, carnage, slaughter, butchery-"
"I think we get it." Charlotte cuts him off, Scott groaning again beside him. "All right, Scott, I'm telling coach that-"
"No, No I'm all right." Scott sighs, winching again. "Well you don't look all right." Stiles sighs. "Would you just let me see it?"
Scott weakly pushes him away "I'm okay."
"Just let me see it, okay?" He argues, raising his eyebrows at Scott.
Scott winces, gently pulling up his shirt reluctantly making both Stiles and the now interested Charlotte gawk, the girl sitting up, paying way more attention to the conversation then a she was a few moments ago. "Oh, dude..." Stiles sighs, worry etched on his face. "I know it's bad, but it's because they're from an Alpha. It'll take longer to heal."
"How come Boyd and Isaac are fine then?" Stiles questions, earning no response, but instead a far off look. Stiles turns to Charlie, sharing the same expression, total fear and worry.
"I can't believe he's dead.." Scott voices, making the pair look at him. "I can't believe Dereks dead."
Charlotte blinked rapidly, keeping her emotions from pouring out. She didn't really know Derek, and had had limited interactions with him, but there was something about death that seemed to sit in her stomach like a rock, it didn't matter who it was, someone was still dead.
