CHAPTER THREE

Charlotte is running through the forest, speeding along its edge as she runs for dear life, she can feel heat against her back, like she's running from a wildfire.

The pain is aching as it grows warmer and warmer against her back, but no matter how far or fast she runs, she can't seem to get rid of it, hot on her tail.

She finally makes it home, her entire body now tingling, like she's going to explode, she rushes through the house and outside, breathing in the air hoping the feeling will dissipate, but it doesn't.

She stands at the edge of her pool, breathing heavily. She can't tell how long she'd been running, but she was tired.

The tingling slowly began to stop, Charlotte assuming it was all over, that she was okay, when suddenly, as she spun on her heels to walk back inside, her hands looked like they were ablaze, infact, her whole lower arm was engulfed in flames, it hurt like hell.

She gasped and tried to brush the flames from her skin but it was no use, she began to walk backwards, like she was trying to escape herself, but the flames grew with her panic.

Finally, her heels reached the edge of the pool and she slipped, falling backwards into the pool, hitting the cold surface roughly and falling to the bottom, slowly closing her eyes as she sunk farther.... and farther....

Charlotte springs awake, just like the night before. What a weird dream?  As she fully sat up in bed, she reached up and ran her hands through her  brown hair.

it was... wet? Why was her hair wet?

Charlotte began to rack her brain on what was happening but couldn't think of anything. That was a dream, nothing else, she must have showered last night and forgot. But why did it feel so real?

-✵-

Charlotte entered the doors to the school, the same time as most other kids. There's a chill that creeps along the hallway and the rattling of vents as the A.C. cools the indoor space.

Charlie sighs and finds her locker, fumbling with the code before finally busting it open to grab what she needs for her next few class, as she swings the door open, a presents falls next to her.

"Hi! i'm Kelly, you're new... right?" The unfamiliar girl introduces herself. Charlotte cranes her head towards the girl and gives an out of character warm smile. "Yes, Hi, My name is Charlie" She smiles, closing her locker and leaning against it.

"I know who you are" Kelly smiles. "We have history together."

Charlie nods and tucks a piece of hair behind her ear. "So anyways.. I heard you haven't made many friends, so if you're interested, my friend Heather is having a party tonight if you'd like to come?" Kelly questions, smiling at the girl warmly.

Charlotte smiles back and nods. "Does she go here?" She questions. "No but a few peeps who go to Beacon Hills will be there."

The brunette nods again, hating talking to strangers "Sounds fun, I'll think about it." Charlie smiles. Kelly nods and gives the girl her number, smiling and walking off. "I'll text you the details!" She yells as she struts away leaving Charlotte as she sighs and leans against her now closed locker.

The girl had already been through enough in the past few days, and now she might be forced to mingle with a bunch of hormonal, drunk, teenagers for some girl she just met.
