AUGUST 1976 ╱ diagon alley, london
It was unusually cloudy one Thursday in August. Katya had grown accustomed to London's unpredictable weather and decided to stay in the inn, cosying herself in a little corner, not too far from a warmly lit fireplace.
She had brought a book she had bought a few weeks ago, but failed to read it, being more interested in the peculiar people walking in and out of the pub.
Hags, old witches and wizards, abnormally tall people, and warlocks came in every second, either to walk off into Diagon Alley or to sit in the dark pub.
It was late afternoon and Katya had finally picked up her book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, when four people entered the pub, drawing attention to themselves.
There was an elderly couple, maybe in their fifties and two boys, who must have been friends. One had jet black hair which stuck up a bit at the back. He had circular frames and a thin figure. The other caught her eye a little more than the other.
Unlike the others this boy had shoulder length black hair, which was much more elegant than his friends. He was a little taller than the other boy, but what intrigued her most was his sparkling grey eyes.
She was quite sure if she hadn't just spilt her coffee, she would've drowned in his silver pupils.
Impulsively, she stood up, leaving her book and spilled coffee behind, she strode over to the bar, passing just in front of the group. Truthfully she had no idea what the hell she was doing, apart from the boys in the orphanage, she had never had a proper conversation with one.
She sat on a high stool at the bar, but regretted this deeply when she realised she could not watch what the boy was doing. If she turned it would look suspicious.
"Tom, could I have one of those Butterbeers?" Her voice tipped with her elegant French accent could indeed get her anything she wanted, then as he passed her the bottle, she wondered why she hadn't asked for something a little more interesting.
It would be twice as embarrassing to be drunk in front of this boy, she thought as she took a swig, going her best to get a good look at him.
The group were now sitting just behind her, having friendly conversation, as people started hauling into the pub. It was just past five, so people were either leaving Diagon Alley for home, or people were entering for a meal.
Katya finished the bottle of the caramel like drink and thanked Tom, walking back to her table in the back. From there she should be able to get a better look at them.
She deliberately walked past their table and managed to pick up a few names. Mia, who she assumed was the woman. Monty, James and Sirius.
It was now Katya's job to assign them their names. It was unclear to begin with whose names were whose but it became clearer as their voice grew louder.
'Monty' was the father. James was the son of Mia and Monty, and Sirius was the one she had been fixated on.
Sirius. She wasn't even sure that was his name, it could be one of the others, perhaps she had assigned them wrong. But she could not stop repeating his name on and on in her mind.
Sirius. Sirius. Sirius.

SEPTEMBER 1976 ╱ platform 9 and ¾ , london
August slipped away and soon September arrived with its autumn air and crisp leaves, which had begun to fall a good two weeks prior to the first autumnal month.
Katya had been given copious amounts of instruction from Professor Dumbledore, whom she had not seen since late June. Professor McGonagall, who had told her everything she needed to know along with a couple of basics. And Tom the innkeeper, who had been generous during her stay.
Professor McGonagall had informed her that if she wished she would be able to stay at Hogwarts during the holidays if she wished. Apparently Christmas at Hogwarts was to die for.
The whole world she had been plunged into still felt uncomfortably surreal and she was frightened that when she arrived at this school it would be all a joke and she would be sent back to Paris.
As she walked down Platform 9 and ¾, she noticed several things she was slightly surprised about. Students were wandering around holding cages carrying owls, frogs, rats, and cats. A particular black one brushed past her leg and lept off to a blonde girl in a set of deep green robes.
Subconsciously, Katya knew she was searching for the boy she had seen in the pub two weeks ago, but was out of luck, so after waiting some time she got onto the train and searched for an empty compartment.
She passed a compartment housing a red haired girl with emerald green eyes, flipping through a magazine Katya had seen on her way into the station.
"Excuse me, could I sit here?" ordinarily, the brunette would go off and find an empty compartment, so as not to have to talk to anyone, but the girl was so captivating, Katya's impulsive brain couldn't resist entering.
"Of course! I'm Lily Evans, how come I've never seen you before?" She asked, closing her magazine.
"I'm from France, I'm just starting this year. Katya Duval."
Lily seemed very interested in everything Katya had to say so the girl went on talking about whatever fascination British people had in Europe.
The train had begun to move and the amount of buildings slowly started to decrease.
"Are you here alone?" Lily asked.
"Mmh, I'm from an orphanage, I didn't know about magic before Dumbledore came only a few months ago to tell me whatever he did," She responded. She spoke of her abandonment very casually and thought if she seemed unbothered, people would not press questions.
Luckily she was right.
