"So how are you and Yeonjun doing?"
Beomgyu froze for a moment, surprised by the question. He hadn't expected Soobin to bring up his current relationship. He swallowed his mouthful of cake before replying with a noncommittal, "We're fine."
Soobin nodded but the concern remained evident in his eyes. He knew when Beomgyu was lying, and Beomgyu was 100% lying right now.
He sighed and decided to push a bit further, unable to shake off his worries. "Beomgyu, can I ask you something, if you don't mind?"
Beomgyu's hand shook momentarily before he set his fork down, preparing himself for the question.
"Sure, what is it?" he asked, trying to maintain his composure.
Soobin hesitated for a moment, unsure whether he should continue with the line of questioning, but he genuinely cared for Beomgyu, so he decided to push on.
"How does Yeonjun treat you?" he asked softly, his voice filled with worry. "Are you happy with him?"
The question caught Beomgyu off guard, his mind automatically bringing up memories of yesterday night and today morning's events. He didn't want to talk about this, not here, not now and definitely not with Soobin. It was too complicated, too painful.
He took a deep breath, trying to keep his emotions in check, attempting to mask his pain with a forced smile.
"Yeonjun treats me well ofcourse. I'm just feeling a little under the weather, don't worry too much." he said, lying through his teeth.
Soobin could sense the discomfort in Beomgyu's expression and voice, and although he didn't want to push further, he couldn't shake off the concern he felt for his ex-boyfriend.
"You know, if there's ever anything troubling you or if you need someone to talk to, I'm here right? We are still friends." he offered, his eyes filled with sincerity.
Him and Beomgyu had broken up on a mutual understanding after dating for three years, that it wasn't working anymore, and they were better off as friends; but none of them contacted each other, because Beomgyu got involved with Yeonjun, and Soobin realised it too late that he still wasn't over Beomgyu and loved him the same.
Soobin regretted it everyday, and if he had a chance to come back into Beomgyu's life once again, he would be up for it in a heartbeat, but that wasn't the case anymore. Beomgyu wasn't his anymore.
Beomgyu looked up at Soobin, caught off guard by the unexpected offer.
"Thanks, Soobin," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. "I really appreciate it."
Despite the discomfort, Soobin couldn't help but feel a warm glow within him at the simple "Thanks" from Beomgyu; even just a mere acknowledgement made his heart swell with warmth. He smiled, his gaze never leaving Beomgyu's.
"Finish your food before it gets cold." he said gently, before making his way back to the counter.
Beomgyu nodded, focusing his attention back on his food. The warmth from Soobin's smile lingered in his mind, contrasting the coldness he had been feeling lately.
As he ate, his thoughts once again drifted towards Yeonjun, a constant battle waging within him. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss in their relationship, and he was torn between guilt and blame.
Soobin watched from the counter, feeling a dull ache in his heart. It was evident that Beomgyu was grappling with something emotionally, but Soobin knew that he was in no position to delve into it. Beomgyu's relationship with Yeonjun was not his business anymore, no matter how much he cared for the younger man.
The minutes ticked by, and Beomgyu eventually finished his meal. Standing up, Beomgyu made his way towards the counter where Soobin was waiting.
Their eyes met, a mix of emotions swirling in the air between them. Beomgyu opened his mouth to say something, but Soobin interrupted, saying "The cakes are on me. Don't worry about it."
Beomgyu looked at him, surprised.
"Soobin, you didn't have to..." he murmured, his voice filled with gratitude."I wanted to." Soobin replied, a small smile playing on his lips. "You look like you needed a good meal."
Beomgyu smiled back, feeling a slight warmth in his chest.
"Thank you." he said softly. With one last look at Soobin, he turned to leave. As he walked out the door, a mix of emotions washed over him. The encounter with his ex-boyfriend had left him feeling both confused and comforted. He had a lot to think about, but for now, he just wanted to go home and spend some time alone.
Beomgyu stepped out into the chilly air, pulling his jacket closer around him. He got into his car and started driving, his thoughts still swirling with confusion. The conversation with Soobin had brought up more questions than answers, and he felt like he was on an emotional rollercoaster.
He knew he had to face Yeonjun soon, but he wasn't ready yet. For now, he just wanted some time to gather his thoughts and feelings.
He didn't know what to think or feel about Yeonjun's behavior. The mixed signals were sending him into a spiral of confusion and self-doubt.
A part of him wanted to confront Yeonjun about it, but he was afraid of what the conversation would bring. He didn't want to risk pushing Yeonjun further away or potentially ruining whatever semblance of a relationship they had left.
So, he chose to stay silent and suffer in silence.
He couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt for his own feelings. He knew he shouldn't be feeling so much for someone who was so distant, someone who didn't seem to care about him and constantly pushed him away. But his love for Yeonjun was an unyielding flame, one that refused to be extinguished no matter how much he tried.
He didn't want to feel this way, but he couldn't control his own heart. He loved Yeonjun fiercely, despite all the pain and uncertainty. It was a love that seemed to know no bounds, and it was both a blessing and a curse. After last night, it increased ten-fold, igniting a small flame of hope in his heart, that maybe Yeonjun was softening up to him, maybe what they shared last night meant something to Yeonjun as well.
But the insecure part of his screamed at him that Yeonjun had left him, and was ignoring him. He was stuck in a tug-of-war between his emotions. He didn't know what to believe or think, and confronting Yeonjun scared him.
What would he ask him even? Moreover, what if Yeonjun was busy? Maybe he's just overthinking everything. Last night, it has to mean something.
"He wouldn't agree to it, if he didn't feel atleast something right? He wouldn't touch me so carefully and delicately, if it was just lust...right?"
